I've been busy with renovations and other things so I haven't done much reading. I had to make time to listen to this audiobook, as I'd been meaning to read the three books in this memoir of living for some time.
Real Estate is a meditation on owning real estate or just aspiring to own some to call your own. As she approaches her 60th birthday, Levy is pondering about aging, loneliness, her past relationships, and writing.
The writing is beautiful and honest, without airing the dirty laundry. I like that.
I'm looking forward to reading the other two books, Things I Don't Want to Know and The Cost Of Living.

I read a novel of hers and didn’t like it. Don’t remember the book or the reason for not liking it. This memoir sounds interesting though. Adding!

Memoirs are difficult, glad you found a good one. Your last line says it all."
Thanks, Jan. It's good to be missed. The writing is more akin to essays, which appeal to me a fair bit.

Thank you, Debbie. I think you'll enjoy this. It's got many elements most women would appreciate, especially women over 40. I think the novel you are referring to is Hot Milk, which I absolutely adored. I didn't like her latest novel, The Man Who Saw Everything, despite being set in East Germany. I appreciated Swimming Home.

Many thanks, Fran. Without dismissing people's traumas, sometimes it feels like there's a competition going on - who's had it worse. I mean, I get it, the extremes create drama etc., it's better for writing/film.

Thanks so much, Candi. I felt some kind of kinship with Levy, even though we're from different countries, she's 20 years older, but I felt like I understood her, if you know what I mean. I've got 2 more weeks of renovations to go, hopefully, I'll get some time to do some reading and pop here more often.

Thanks, Antoinette. Yes, renovations are a pain, that's why we postponed them for so long. This is the worst time to renovate, labour and materials shortages, so paying top dollar for everything and having to be grateful when trades people show up. Grrr.

Thanks, Jen. So far so good re renovations, feeling anxious about Covid, having to stop due to isolating or the trades people having to do so. Fingers crossed it goes to plan, although when did renovations ever go to plan?

I actually think it was Swimming Home! Not sure though. The others don’t sound familiar. I read it pre-GR, so no telling. That said, I bet I would like her memoir. It sounds up my alley.
