It was not a book I would ever have read and the description of it repelled me. However, I loved seeing the world through the eyes of an innocent child, the things we take for granted, the double meanings, the confusion of every day language and the bond between mother and child, particularly while struggling to survive. I only wish it hadn't ended so abruptly. I was wanting to see how they survived in the real world just a bit more.
