it was amazing
bookshelves: drama

I’ve always believed that Iago is one of the greatest literary villains ever! A nemesis who was so twisted by hate and even acknowledged that he had no good reason for wanting to destroy the hero. Iago is the archetype for so many modern villains.

Whenever I reread “Othello, I picture a cinematic version where Denzel Washington plays Othello, Cate Blanchett plays Desdemona, and Tim Roth plays Iago…the movie wouldn’t even have to be titled “William Shakespeare’s Othello, it could simply be named “Greatest Movie Ever instead!

Tim Roth is the man! Hope you enjoy this one (especially with that casting in your head now)! :)

Erik Movie sounds awesome~

Darsie I like your actor choices for the main roles. Although I just saw the Laurence Fishburne/ Kenneth Branagh movie version, which I thought was most excellent.

message 5: by Asad (new)

Asad There is such a huge racial element in Othello and I think people miss it. Denzel as Othello would underline the racial politics of the play. Othello was born a Muslim and converted to Christianity so that he could serve in the Venetian Navy and so he could join Western society. When he meets Desdemona, he doesn't think has a chance with her. Even when they're together, he can never believe it because he's been acculturated to think Europeans hate Africans. That's why when he sees hints of infidelity he overreacts. The infidelity is easier to believe than her love.
