Happy to say I've read this, given all the attention it's gotten and especially since the series has really taken off. It's one of those books I was thinking 'everybody has read this but me'.

The 3* rating is only my personal view, because this is not the type of book genre that I would read. But for the complexities and sheer brilliance of the book and its topic, however frightening, I would give Margaret Atwood 5* for this book.

I almost did not read the "Historical Notes" section at the book's end as I did not think it was part of the story. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is definitely part of the story, and must not be overlooked. It is set in the fictitious future, 2195, and adds much to the story of Gilead and what had gone on during that time. It gives some clarity!
