I am just going to pretend that this book doesn't exist! ALIENS????? ALIENS??????? ALIENS?????????? That's a cruel joke. I got so pissed I erased it off my Kindle. It's one of the few books I have abandoned in my life but it was spoiling the thrill and excitement that had built up in me. It's such a disappointing ending to the Uglies series - as if a completely different person came up with it. Even the writing is not at paar with the previous books. The action is abrupt. At one moment the characters are talking and all of a sudden they are on hoverboards which came out of nowhere and running away from ALIENS. ALIENS???????????
"Extras" is the first book I give one star and am not guilt-ridden about it. I appreciate all the efforts and thoughts authors put into their work, all the sleepless nights and all the blocks they have to contend with so seldom do I dare say I disliked a particular book. I feel like I am deliberately undermining and trying to hurt the author this way. There's always something - at least a sentence, that impresses you. But gosh! Aya is such a crybaby! She has no idea why she wants to become popular and when she becomes a prominent "kicker" she begins grumbling and whining. And the love story with Frizz!!! Don't get me started!
ALIENS???????

mountaingoat There were aliens in it? Looks like SW just threw in all his leftover ideas to write this book. Extra is as great a title as any.

Ally I can't even begin to imagine how aliens fit into the story? I stopped after Pretties because the characters were infuriating me, but I kinda want to continue with this series now out of curiosity. Including aliens into the story sounds very bizarre. I know what you mean about trying not to be too negative about authors work, but at the end if the day not everyone does their job well, right? If you have paid good money for a book which turns out to be a complete disappointment I don't see the problem in reviewing it honestly and letting other people know how bad it was.

Mery You are right about honest reviews. But I pity the authors! So much onerous work goes into the creation of any book that I feel a twinge of guilt every time I abandon one.
I loved the trilogy, though! Especially Zane!
But 'Extras' has a totally new cast of characters. I read that Tally shows up later in the book to save the protagonist but I didn't get to that part. The novel is based in Japan whose society is dependent on popularity. The more subscribers/followers/friends you have - the more merits and money you earn. It sort of denigrates social network media which is admirable. But I couldn't bear the aliens!

Angel read the book. they are not aliens.

Emma Hughes Yeah in the end they're actually not aliens.....

Mery What are they?

Emma Hughes Humans that are planning on making a colony in space. They have lots of surge to make it easier.

Vivelavie you should've finished the book. i agree it's not a good book but at least you wouldv'e found out there weren't any aliens in it (just oversurged people).

message 9: by K (new) - added it

K Ya definitely not aliens, just people that surged themselves to adapt to living in orbit around earth.
