My favorite animals are owls and octopuses (just coincidence that they both start with "o"), and any book centered around them is a sure bet for my attention.

Tova is heartbroken. Her husband of nearly 50 years has recently passed away. Since her 18yo son vanished 30 years ago, she's alone in the world and facing some hard choices. Twenty-something Cameron rolls into town looking for a fresh start. His California girlfriend threw him out, and he's relocated to Oregon to figure his life out - and hopefully, to finally learn who his father was.

Remarkably Bright Creatures was sweet, but the premise is just a touch misleading. Tova is the woman who cleans the aquarium at night; Marcellus is the Pacific Octo that bonds with her. Although there are brief chapters sharing Marcellus' thoughts, he's much less a centerpiece of the story than I had hoped.

I enjoyed this slow-moving story, but not as much as I wanted to. It generated no tears and I never even came close.
