John Le Carre

Lots of people whose taste I respect love John le Carré. Call me lowbrow, I don't get it and probably never will. I find his books to be slow and plodding because the action has always already taken place. You learn about what happened in retrospect through vague spy dialogue between stuffy old men. Tons of characters pop in and out without ever being introduced or explained. The plots are ambiguous and hard to follow. The writing seems purposely convoluted and obscure to confuse the reader about everything so it all seems much more mysterious than it actually is. If you feel the same, you are not alone, there are others like us out there!!
