did not like it
bookshelves: young-adult, stand-alone, 2013, book-i-totally-disliked, waste-of-time

Ok, don't kill me but for me, Hopeless was mostly an over the top book.

To be honest, after reading the first chapter I was afraid that it would be a 1 star book, but then luckily things got better unfortunately not that better.

What prevented me from really enjoying Hopeless is not so much the YA genre or the predictability of the story, that the over use of tragic/traumatic events.

Seriously? How many of those an author can use in one single book? (view spoiler)

If this isn't over use of tragic/traumatic events I don't know how to call it.

I'm sad to say that I had much more pleasure reading some of the beautiful reviews written about it than reading the book itself.

Baba That's enough for me, Glamdring. I would never ever read this book. This is NOT realistic. Great review!

Glamdring Thank you, Baba! :)

Nat O Glamdring, I can see your point about the overuse of tragic events ... I'm not usually a fan of unrealistic stories that edge on overboard, but somehow I still enjoyed the story. It had it's tender moments which for me made it great. I still enjoyed reading your POV!

message 28: by Erica (new) - rated it 1 star

Erica (Reading Kitten) I agree, the drama was definitely too much.

Komal how i agree with you ! it was iver the top with the drama bit. I love reading booms.high on drama but this one was just forced the dramatic part. What is it with ya and na authors these days ?

Glamdring Riya wrote: "how i agree with you ! it was iver the top with the drama bit. I love reading booms.high on drama but this one was just forced the dramatic part. What is it with ya and na authors these days ?"

I really don't get it.

Darkphoenix i completely agree with you! this book drove me insane. It took all my willpower to finish it!

Rashika (is tired) I thought I was the only one in the world who didn't like this. I actually liked the book first time around but then I spend a long time thinking about it and a realized how bad it actually was. THERE IS NO PLOT!
Plus I HATE the fact that the author tries to put a good spin on the father. Oh god this book totally messed with my brain.

Mi Camino Blanco Thank you! After reading so many five starred highly rated reviews I was beginning to think that I had read a different book.

Gabriela Araujo I can see your point, Glamdring. I like Colleen Hoover's books, in general, but I have many issues with also. One of them is exactly this: she just doesn't know when to stop the drama; instead of developing it and creating a story about it, she steps over the edge until there is nothing left. And then, after everything, she still wants us to believe that happy ever afters can exist for these characters without the interference of therapy.

message 47: by Mahlet (new) - added it

Mahlet Although I enjoyed this book, your “Seriously? section cracked me up!

Alaskayoung YOu have no idea how much Iagree with you. Glad someone feels the same because honesty I thought I was the only one. Thanks :D

message 49: by Bisquit (new)

Bisquit Thanks for the spoiler! You prevented me from picking up a book solely out of curiosity (even though I know that I'd hate Hero&heroine, thus not enjoying the book)

message 50: by Defne (new) - rated it 1 star

Defne I'm going to print out copies of this and place them between the pages of every copy of Hopeless I see the next time I'm in a bookstore
