I haven't seen the film, only read the book, and I thought it was wonderful, powerful and moving in a challenging way that I find only in literature of non non English origin. If you want something new and unique then this is for you.

Unfortunately I read this during COVID lockdown and couldn't review it the time so a more detailed review must wait for reread.

Doug I saw the film when it first came out, and then read the book - both, as you say, are very powerful! I should do a reread ...

Liam Ostermann yeah so should I - I read this during lockdown and didn't review it properly then - but it is a tremendous novel - it is very French - it may sound silly to insist on this when I can't read it in French but it is so un-English!
