it was amazing

In 2021 I READ Sy Montgomery's The Soul of an Octopus, a non fiction book on octopus which was a wonderful essay on the creatures from the sea. So in reading Remarkably Bright Creatures about a Giant Pacific octopus in the world of fiction named Marcellus brings fact and fiction together in such a good way. Van Pelt must have done extensive research into the lives and ways of octopus to give Marcellus a loud voice in her story.

Octopus live, on average, for four years and Marcellus knows that he is coming to his end time. Tova, the night-time cleaning lady at the aquarium is full of grief. She strikes up a relationship with Marcellus. Marcellus knows how he can relieve the grief in Tove's heart but is having trouble passing on the facts to her. Marcellus will find a way before his time is over.

Van Pelt's story of grief, loss, love and findings is exquisite. A thoroughly wonderful read. Kudos to her on her debut novel. Remarkably Bright Creatures is such a good feel good book; it will stay with me for a long time and I will recommend it to all of my reader friends.

You will know the secrets of the story well before it is over but that does not deter from wanting to read on to ascertain that you are correct! Such a lovely book.

Jean Pyzik Just started this. Wasn’t sure I would keep reading it but will now based on your review.

Toni well, I hope you like it in the end but with any book, someone might like it a lot and their friend or book club buddy might hate it. It was just a really feel good book to me which I needed after reading some heavy tomes! Happy reading!
