it was amazing
bookshelves: favourites

there are stories that make you feel everything. and then there are stories that leave you empty.

this story is both.

and its all because of benji.

if you have read the previous two books in the beartown series, your heart will already belong to him. you will know the boy with the sad eyes and the wild heart. you will know the kind of person he is.

i really wish this book had kept its original title ‘those who run towards fire, because thats benji. hes the sort of person who runs toward a fire. no hesitation, no questions, he just runs. people like that are rare, but you know who they are when you see them. and those of you who know benji probably knew deep down that he was never the sort of person who would get a happy ending.

obviously we still hoped. oh, how we hoped.

this final book, this ending, benjis ending, hurts too much to touch with words.

but thank you, fredrik backman, for giving it to us all the same.

my endless gratitude for the ARC, atria books.

Bethany T Benji! I'm crying already. I didn't read your full review yet (I will later) because I've convinced myself that I want to try to read this book with as few expectations or plot hints as possible. But I'm glad to see you liked the book!

jessica oh, the very first page of the book tells you how everything is going to end. so be prepared!

ashleigh no i’m scared 😭

message 4: by Lacie (new)

Lacie Weisz Wow. Almost crying already. I don't know if I can handle it. 😥😥

message 5: by josefin (new)

josefin Me, as a swede, am so happy the book is finally published in English. Looking forward to finally hear people talk about it! This series has been one of the best I have ever read and one year later I'm still just as heartbroken

Janina Oh wow! Now I’m both excited and really, really scared to read The Winners. Not sure if I’m ready.

Ellen Taylor Benji deserves the world omg

azul lovely review and benji owns my entire heart and i am so scared to read this, i'm tearing up 😭😭😭

Benji Glaab Glad I could mean so much to you Jessica... but seriously this series is unreal can't wait to listen to book 3 on audio

message 10: by Ray (new) - added it

Ray Will look out for this with much anticipation. The first two books left me both moved and feeling manipulated

message 11: by Anastasia (new) - added it

Anastasia Ahhhhhh stop I get my copy td 😍

alyssawhite My poor Benji. Ripped my damn heart out

Esperanza Navarro I just finished. I sort of knew what was coming. I was afraid to get there so I read the story slowly and savored it. I recommend that. I felt like I spent more quality time with all these characters before I had to say goodbye. It’s been a long time since a book has made me cry this hard ❤️

Kathy Lies I agree with Jessica, but I cannot rate it with stars because it was a very difficult book to get through. I also feel that it should contain a SPoiler ALERT: if reading about a graphic rape scene disturbs you, you may want to rethink reading this. Having read it, I can’t “unsee it.

message 15: by Cait (new) - rated it 5 stars

Cait Amazing review Jessica!

Amanda I definitely agree with the first title being more significant

Holly Callen There was no other way this saga could end for Benji. My heart aches…but it was the right ending.

message 19: by Ro (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ro Great review

Nancy Mcdaniel What a perfect way to describe it.

message 21: by Lori (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lori This hurts way too much for words.

Isabel the absolute worst thing about it too was how much it was foreshadowed... i knew it was going to happen and yet it was so painful. mayas song sent me over the edge

Renee Williams It hurts to much for words is perhaps the most fitting line in this entire series. Oh my goodness how I sobbed.
From the first chapter you know what’s coming, but still you hope. The breadcrumbs left along the way make you almost not want to finish the book because then it will all be over, for the characters and for the series.

It’s the third week in January and I started this series in the first. It is going to be very hard to top this series for the remainder of the year, if not lifetime.

Brilliant!

Colleen Rahill-Beuler Do I detect the next book maybe? …”This is where all the others end. This is where hers begins. “All of this has been about the same thing: Alicia

Alisha Andriotis Wow what an amazing review! I want to copy and paste 😂🙈 you took the words right out of my mouth!

Chrissi this review almost made me cry again. how can a book that tells you everything to know on the fucking first page be so brilliantly emotionally destroying? The Winners won't make you feel much.
Only everything.

Jacob Webb Just finished it and you said everything I was feeling better than I could have.

message 28: by Sara (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sara Tammaro Such a brilliant and achingly painful book. We knew it was going to end for a main character but we held on to hope that somehow the author was fooling us in to believing that he would die. I loved all the characters and their development, with their successes, defeats, lies, truths, reparations and consequences. This series will always stay with me. So sad to have finished it.

Katja Tursi Thank you for writing down what I (and so many others) feel about that book!!

Kathryn This sums up the book and how it all fits together. I don't think I will ever read anything as compelling ever again

Nicholle Cummings This review hurts my heart 😭

message 32: by Mary (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mary Mills Ugh I have never wanted to hold a character more than Benji, my heart hurts for him.

Jessica Haara I just finished the book and my heart is broken. Benji holds a special place in my heart. I thought I was done sobbing but this review made my eyes tear up! 😭

Julie Gavin You summed it up perfectly. He spoils the ending on the first page but makes you wait until the penultimate chapter to find out the details. I felt like I needed to attend his funeral because my friend had died.
