it was amazing

This book crushed me. It sparked such a deep feeling of loss and regret in me. Made me examine my own life, my own decisions, missteps and regrets and wasted time and opportunities. Life is short, and this book will remind you of that. It will remind you of lost loves and what could have been. It will remind you that life should be lived to the fullest, that you shouldn't ever waste a single day. It will teach you about true loneliness. And finally, it will teach you about acceptance. I loved it.

Quotes George Liked

Ken Grimwood
“All life includes loss. It's taken me many, many years to learn to deal with that, and I don't expect I'll ever be fully resigned to it. But that doesn't mean we have to turn away from the world, or stop striving for the best that we can do and be. We owe that much to ourselves, at least, and we deserve whatever measure of good may come of it.”

“He went out with a variety of women, slept with some of them, hated the whole meaningless process. Drinks, dinners, plays and concerts and gallery openings ... He grew to despise the rigid formality of dating, missed the easy familiarity of simply being with someone, sharing friendly silences and unforced laughter.”

C.W. Tickner Exactly what my thought process was, really makes you think about how your own life could turn out. Spot on review George.

X30 C64 Forever You really nailed it! Excellent!

Tarik I stirred up the exact same feelings in me. Only other book that was that impactful to me was 11.22.63

Kerry I agree, I read this a few years ago and just finished it on audio. I heard the author was planning a sequel when he died. Just shows you how short life is and not to delay in anything

Amy Perfect review! I feel the same way.

Suzanne I read my original copy of this book back in 1988 and it really struck a chord with me. It is the only already-read book I've held onto over the years. I guess because I knew I would want to revisit it someday. Fast forward to July 2023, I am on a quest to read and give away every book currently sitting on my shelf. I grabbed this one to re-read and finally pass on to someone else. I finished it again today and it made me feel EXACTLY as your review relates. I put it back on my shelf to read again someday.

Pascal Leclair I didn't realize others felt the same about your review as I did until I clicked on the "comment" button... I read this in my early twenties (late 90's) and absolutely fell in love with it. I've read it multiple times since and will read it again many in the future.

Rhonda B I read this book many years ago. To this day it has been one of the most impactful books read. Thank you for your review!
