Um, yeah. So the teen girls at the library are crazy about this series, so I decided to see what it was about. It's ridiculous. It centers around a group of vapid, cruel girls, and how our main character really wants to be a part of their clique. And there's no sense of self-realization, where she discovers she's better off, or where she comes to terms with who she is. No- we're just left with the impression that if she works hard enough, maybe she'll be able to get in the clique. I think that the popularity of this book is a sad reflection on how hard it is to be a young girl in the 21st century. Seriously.

Ellie Hey, no need to be mean.

Jen Hey, no need to be mean

Exactly. I can't stand it when certain "defenders" of a book attack other people in such a manner. Rayna G., comments like the ones you are leaving makes you seem immature and no one (except maybe people who leave similar comments) are going to really listen to you.

Jen no one *is, sorry

Ellie I agree with you, J.N. Although I do like the series because of the quick fluff it provides, I don't feel compelled to lash out at other people who don't. Try and save the insults, k, Rayna?

Claire2019 It gets better in the end of the seris, really.

AlyeskaFox I was not aware that if a bunch of teen girls like something, then it's not meant for annoying adults. I shall have to keep this in mind and avoid things like shopping malls, Starbucks, and attractive males for the rest of my life. This could be difficult, but I'll let you know how things are going.

Molly, I totally agree with you. I was so psyched to see Claire hold her own against Massie and remain so much more mature than them in the face of their brainless taunting. When it became clear that all she really cared about was being popular, it was such a letdown. You're better than them, girl!

Zainab okay . think before u write something . Claire ( the main character) is just trying to fit in . she's new and wants friends . And besides everything becomes better at the end of the book .

WTH?! Okay, let me stop you right there. You clearly haven't read the entire series.

True, they are shallow and mean in the first book, but THIS IS A SERIES. A few books later they clearly state they would choose friendship over designer clothing and money.

THEY CHANGE. At least that's better than those books that have Mary Sue protagonists that were good people the whole time.

You know, the ones you oh-so-love.

The Clique is a great series, teaching people that your friends are more important than any piece of clothing or expensive house.

You're just being a hypocrite. The Clique has great morals and is well-written, something all authors strive toward.

Next time, maybe consider, oh, I don't know, actually READING the book before you give it a negative review based one what your YA novel-hating friend told you.

Thet are not sluts. Their clothing is appropriate (a tank top and cargo pants is perfectly okay for school and she didn't even wear it in school)..

Megan I think young teenage girls forget that we “old women in our 20s, 30s, 40s... even 50s, 60s, and older! - were once teenagers too. And this stuff, being a teenage girl, doesn’t change. Hence the appeal of YA books to adults. Sure, trends change, like the music, movies, TV shoes, clothing, etc., that each group of teen girls like. But the importance of being social, popular, in the right “clique - sadly stays the same.

And for all of the teenage girls and preteen girls calling college women and older “old: well, I hate it to break it to you, but you have. VERY short time to be a teen. You just don’t know it yet because it’s all you’ve ever known. But I can promise you this - one day, you too WILL get older. You will be one of the “old, annoying women you seem to not think you identify with. And trust me, at 36, you’ll only think of how crazy you were to have thought of 25 as old. And so on and so forth.
