This book was quite misleading. I do not think that it falls under the "pitch black" category. I had to dnf at 23%. Normally I wouldn't rate a dnf...but I feel like I need to speak on this book because of the severity of what was lacking. This book could have been great, I was ready for jaw dropping moments...sadly, I was left scratching my head. This book lacked in the story telling. There was no explanations for any actions, the "Slave" was the most pampered "Slave" I have come across in a book. I felt that the Author struggled with the direction of this book. The characters were missing entire chunks to their story that would explain their behaviors and also at times there were behaviors that were so conflicting, that it made my eyes cross.
I wanted depth and didn't even get past my pinky toe. Also, one thing that I really can not tolerate with Author's is when they don't give a reader a chance to discover information on their own. Example, you find out very early on who a certain culprit is, in a very YA sort of way, rather than having this mystery withheld from the readers. That would have created an urgency in me to see who this mystery person was...why the Author spoiled it so soon, I do not understand.
This book was a 1 star because it failed to deliver a well built story. The themes are supposed to be dark, but the writing made it seem more like a YA. This one was a miss for me.
