Honestly I think this is one of the best books I've ever read, not just one of the best of the year.

I have never heard of it until now and have added it to my tbr. I wonder if you would like Boy Parts by Eliza Clark.

I just finished that book that I've read on your recommendation, and I'm just speechless. I've also reread the very beginning which makes much more sense once you know the whole story. I'm just deeply moved and impressed by how rich Harpman's themes are through such a unique and deeply disturbing plot. One of the most thought-provoking novels I've ever read, period.

Just finished this book as my first book of 2023 and it was bleak but a reminder of how women can be strong. Brilliant!!

I couldn't have picked a better time in my life to read this. I can relate to the protagonist so much. I'm so glad you wouldn't stop recommending it. More people should read it.

Bleak is such the right word. But ditto to people needing to read this!

I鈥檓 all for reading and throughout the whole book I was WAITING for something to happen. And then it ended. Well written but SO dumb.

@Katie did you really expect closure? There was plenty of stuff happening throughout the book.

I just finished and then went back to the beginning after seeing your comment. So glad I did! It clarified the narrator's point of view and actually shifted my perspective of the story. This is a fascinating book! I'm so glad I came across it.

Please explain to me why this would haunt you? It鈥檚 a fantasy and completely unrealistic. I couldn鈥檛 be drawn in by how unfathomable the entire thing is

It鈥檚 horror

There's more than a story here , yes it's disturbing at times , but the courage of the young girl , her constant ability to keep hoping for something better was something that cannot be explained , but in a way experienced by humans even when it's not understood ,why?
Especially when her life was a blank page to be filled with the limited experiences around her .
Where did she find the hope? The courage to never stop believing for something better?

I purchased a copy of this book because of you, and I thank you. It was as good as you promised (if not better) and I will definitely be rereading it, perhaps multiple times.

Im scared to read this. It sounds very dark.

I read this book because of your review and it鈥檚 wonderful. I normally don鈥檛 read much fiction but this was such an easy and engaging read. There were passages that made me cry and I really don鈥檛 think that has ever happened before. It made me really think about exactly what it is that makes us human. How much can be stripped away before we become something else. Thank you so much.

I read this because of your review and struggle to understand what exactly blew your mind? I was waiting for the whole of the second half of my reading to have my mind blown, did I miss something? Or are you using too strong of an expression?

I really didn鈥檛 get it. It started well but I found it so boring and repetitive in the second part. What did I miss? Nothing happens, no deep characters, no answers, actually you already know there鈥檚 not gonna be a surprising ending, that made it so difficult to read! It took me 4 days to read the last 20 pages 馃う馃徎鈥嶁檧锔�

I read this is 2 sittings! A modern classic! Thanks for telling us we have to read it!

This book left me as troubled as The Road did, and both are unforgettable. It is the kind of book that you recommend but you don鈥檛 necessarily 鈥渓ike鈥�.
