Welp. I went looking for one with an uber-mean, nasty dude and got it. The first half wasn't anything special, though the topic of multiple child murders was disturbing.

A little over half-way, our typical Diana Palmer alphahole took a deep dive into the cruel and unforgivable. Me being the trainwreck ho that I am, perked to attention. He stayed pretty disagreeable until almost the very end. After finishing the story, I'm still wondering if he could be believed or forgiven.

There was no (view spoiler) unfortunately. That always spices things up. Or maybe there was. It never said specifically. There was definitely high doses of (view spoiler) that was cringe-worthy. I have no idea how she's ever going to be able to show her face again if she stays with him. I still hate his guts...which is always a recipe for a good time in my opinion.

So if you're looking for a good angry/hater story, then you'll be a happy camper with this one.

Willow Oh wow, this guy must be a colossal douche . You're pretty laid back when it comes to alphaholes.

Julz The dude was coooooold. Impressively so. Colossal douche is a pretty good description. Nothing bodice rippery awful or anything. He just deserved to get what he asked for. ;D

Willow Some of those guys are just so cold, it feels like a part of the heroine dies when she ends up with him. I always think of that quote from The Joy Luck Club: I was taught to desire nothing, to swallow other people's misery, and to eat my own bitterness.

It's kind of a downer. It's not a happy ending.

Julz That's good! And yeah, I totally agree. It's just unforgivable in some instances. I absolute HATE the HEA in Lightning. Though this book wasn't as bad as that.

There was lots of groveling and reassuring but there was a lot to overcome in this one. The heroine was broken pretty bad already, which made it worse. But it had me totally pissed off and misting up, which was what I was looking for.

Julz LOL! Yet I insist on a HEA (except for that one in the previous post. An HEA there would've been him getting hit by a truck. ;D)

Willow LOL Yes, to me the worst thing a book can be is boring. :D

Julz Exactly!! :D

message 10: by willaful (new)

willaful And the worse thing a hero can do is be indifferent to the heroine!

message 11: by Julz (new) - rated it 3 stars

Julz In a book, indifference is worse than wrist grabbing.
