It’s all me. The rating doesn’t reflect the skill of the author or the merits of the book. I think it was "good" and well-written but my mind went into self-preservation mode and I promptly forgot the plot after finishing the book. I had to remind myself by reading the book description. I really don’t enjoy dark depressing psychological stories that revolve around childhood abuse. I get dragged down emotionally and feel depressed afterwards.

I’m not sure I can ever eat pork again either.

Having said all that, I enjoyed Gone Girl and I'm currently reading Dark Places and so maybe I do like reading about emotionally disturbed people.

freckledbibliophile I don't particularly like reading books about abuse and it makes me sad as well. However, because it hit so close to home, I loves it. Why? Because, I was able to espy an individual heal from this type of dark madness. Extremely successful artist and top financial analyst. Sometimes the story needs to be told in the most thickish mound of darkness to wake people up and fight against the cause.
Respectfully written.

Yes, I agree. Books sometimes appeals (or lacks appeal) to different readers for different reasons. While I've read dark and depressing before, this one just didn't strike a chord with me, as her other books did. I'm glad you liked it better than me :-)

JanB Elyse, lol, thanks!!! I think I'll be skipping this movie! Loved her other books though :)

Janet M Thanks for your candid review, Jan. It's weird how we can enjoy some but not others of the same ilk. It's been awhile since I've read this but I do remember it was quite disturbing to me...
