One of my favorite books of the year.
This is the story of a 70 year old woman, recently widowed, who works as a cleaner during the night at the Sowell Bay Aquarium in Washington, and the friendship she develops with Marcellus, the Giant Pacific octopus, that lives in captivity at the aquarium.
Marcellus, a rescue, likes to sneak out of his tank in the evening to find things to bring back. He is intelligent and mischievous. Tova helps him get back to his tank so he won’t get caught on many occasions. This book describes how the two start communicating and the joy they bring to each other and those surrounding them. The author brings together each character in her book expertly.
Marcellus wants to return to the ocean before his time is up. Tova wants to learn more about how her son lost his life at sea 30 years ago. The two work together to try and solve each mystery.
I so enjoyed listening to the audiobook. It is a heartwarming and uplifting tale of friendship. Expect to shed some tears!
A great ending.

Thank you! I think about the book too, Heidi. When I see octopus on a menu I think octopus only live for 4 years, and want to tell everyone to leave them alone!
