it was ok

I didn't find this nearly as good as The Alchemist. I do not know if Coelho was trying to really get in the mindset of a woman by over-analyzing sex, but I felt a real woman would be less philosophical and more emotional about her experiences. It seemed to me that she was detached from herself and no matter what shocking things would come her way, she would still never be phased by it and I just felt it was too dehumanized. Philosophical rampages on love and being the mother and friend to her clients turned me off entirely to this book. Don't get me wrong, Coelho is an eloquent and gifted writer, I just did not find this book as enjoyable as his other works.

Athena I agree....I found myself confused, then irritated, then insulted, then glad it was over.

Aditya Jaishankar Yes when a character dies not seem to be affected by anything it seems unnatural

Saara Karhu I know a Brazilian woman who actually thought that way, and she told me once.
She told me, that because she and her friends came from poor back grounds, all they did, worked hard for few years, just to spend one week in Saint Tropez, or in an other fancy place to find a rich man. As she did.
I found it awkward that Coelho writes about women and in this way.

Saara Karhu I didn't like the naive style, but I kept on reading.
I found it also nearly impossible 22/23 year old being mature enough for such deep thinking.
But then, I remembered my old colleague Maria, from Brazil, that worked hard two years, saving every penny, to be able to have one week of vacation in Saint Tropez, and get a rich husp and, what she got, at the age of what? 23/24 years. And it made me think; there are people capable of that.
What I also found annoying was the fact, and that happens all the time, when men write as they were women,
or when women write as they were men. Why?
As if women would sing as they were men and other way around (Bee Gees)
Once finished the book, I thought my husp and my kids should read it too.
It's not said they would get the point I did. They would, perhaps, get an other point of view, I didn't.

Felicia I also find it strange that he chose to write from a woman's perspective. Maybe he just wanted to challenge himself but unfortunately I don't think he pulled it off well.

Alaa Well we cannot quite blame him. You can only understand something if either you're similar to it or you're it. The author is not a woman. I'm not trying to stereotype my gender. Just saying that it's usually difficult for males to fully understand a female mind.

Jessica Rose Are our minds really that different? I'm pretty shocked by these opinions. I thought this book was beautiful, and found the main character relatable.
