did not like it
bookshelves: non-ya, romance, 1-and-a-half-stars, unpopular-opinion, nope, reviewed

if you've ever wanted to read a sciencey, quirky romance filled with tumblr-esque pop culture references and toddler-age memes about a huge, serious, no-nonsense dickwad man who manages to have gleaming abs and marvel-esque biceps despite being a nerd who ostensibly lives inside of a laboratory, lifting nothing heavier than chalk and bunsen burners, as he meets a goofy not-like-other-girls Woman In Stem whose various traumas and backstories and mildly inconvenient past relationships mean she's searching for a daddy to daughter her up looking for love in all the wrong places, i.e., not looking at all because she doesn't need a man, only science, bad internal dialogue, and her own personality (read: allotted ration of problematic personal relationships, adorkable food obsessions, and single nerdy non-academic interest), plus a sex scene or two that will include at least one turn of phrase cursed to sear into your retinas for the rest of time...

you should read this book.

and every other ali hazelwood book.

because they're all the same.

that's the review.

bottom line: i have to stop reading these.

alexandra my favorite thing about hazelwood's books is that i always swear i'm not going to read the next one before it releases and then just do it anyway once it comes out. sucked into a cycle i don't know how to get out of at this point

arielle i keep hoping the next one is the one where she writes a new story. 🤞

arielle so far, i've been wrong every time!

message 4: by Elsa (new)

Elsa Torres i stopped when i read, "Easy peasy photon squeezy"

message 5: by Rea (new)

Rea Regan Okay, but it's Milo from Atlantis on the cover so if this book isn't about some explorers finding the mysterious lost continent of Atlantis, I'ma riot.

message 6: by Susan (new)

Susan Gottfried I'm a bit skeptical... I have a physicist in my family, so...

ali hazelwood write a book without a nerdy pop culture crush on the cover challenge

emma Susan wrote: "I'm a bit skeptical... I have a physicist in my family, so..."

there are about 900 reasons to be skeptical

message 12: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle Why is his jaw jutting forwards like that though?

Kira Was just not a fan of this one...

message 15: by Steph (new)

Steph I think your review saved me from reading this book and then writing my owl rage-fueled review. Thanks.

message 16: by Eliane (new)

Eliane Anna Agreed, this never pulled me in

message 17: by Haley (new)

♡ Haley ♡ As a research scientist, I just can't get behind the cheesy STEM romance novels. They are so far-fetched.

warisha ☆ They are all the same.

message 19: by Noel (new)

Noel Wow. Ima run right out and get this one.

message 20: by Nine (new)

Nine lmao and here I was wondering if I should be giving this one a try, after that terrible Adam Driver fanfic...

message 21: by Girija (new)

Girija lol i was gonna buy that

message 22: by Eva (new) - rated it 3 stars

Eva this is so accurate lmao

message 23: by Tiszka (new)

Tiszka I love how most of this review is just one, almost 1000 signs-with-spaces sentence x)

message 24: by Beau (new) - rated it 4 stars

Beau I love your reviews lmao 😂🤣

message 25: by Emma (new)

Emma Will I ever learn? By which I mean, will I ever stop reading them after realizing they're all equally terrible and exactly the same people/plot/basically the same book word-for-word? Apparently I will not.

message 26: by Shelby (new) - added it

Shelby P Someone please add that Ali is a scientist and still knows nothing about type 1 diabetes.

E’s library fr but i still eat it up, although this might be the last STEMinist book i read from Hazelwood

Hikami D. Lol this was exactly what I was worried about when this book was announced. The unrealistic depiction of men to always be a supermodel crafted from teenage girl dreams and the FMC always being the slim Barbie (seriously, read any Hazelwood romance, this is your default mmc and fmc). Well, adding this to my "reading to just burn some braincells" pile for when I need something entertaining without much thought.

mariam (Cardan's tail's version♡) hey Emma, I haven't read this but I am sorry to hear that you didn't like it:)

message 30: by Jess (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jess I actually loved this one compared to the others but maybe I just have no brain cells left???? But seriously what’s with the food obsession thing being a character trait?! Everyone loves cheese - it isn’t quirky. Please stop this, Ali.

message 31: by Patricia (new)

Patricia crying laughing at this review plz

Elara B Absolutely cackling at this review rn 👏👏👏

Lizzie ok your review is hilarious but i actually really like Love, Theoretically. I don't know what that says about me 😂

Jess_loves_to_read I’m so glad you felt the same way I did 😅😅

message 35: by Ѳí (new) - rated it 4 stars

Ѳí I find it a little bit unrealistic that neither of the two main characters (30’s) didn’t exercise/go to the gym and still they are like walkable “ken and barbie unless they don’t eat anything I don’t believe it, sorry 🧐

Kavya its STEM. not some flowershop.

message 37: by Danielle (new)

Danielle TRICK ME 4x SHAME ON ALL OF US if this is the same damn story

message 38: by Rae (new) - rated it 1 star

Rae I totally agree with this review. The female characters are so unrelatable. And in all her books the pre-sex consent is so overly done it reads more like informed consent. I find so completely patronizing, that these STEM don't know how to sex and need the male superior to "teach" them.

Silje Funderud This is the best review I have ever read! ahahaha, I laughed so much

inara Lmao nooooooo!!! I was hoping this one would be different 😭🫠

message 41: by Sonia (new)

Sonia Caruso Ok so does anyone have better recommendations for me then pls?? 🙏🏼

Donna Luu Dang, wish I had read your review before commiting so many hours to this book.

message 43: by Ani (new) - rated it 1 star

Ani Aghababyan Thank god for this review bc i was losing my mind with all the 4 and 5 start reviews. My first time reading this author and I cannot wait to never repeat this mistake (I’d quit if it wasn’t for a book club hosted at my house)

message 44: by Elpi (new)

Elpi Kalogeropoulou I am a woman in stem and I agree with your review wholeheartedly. However, I did find this one slightly better than hypothesis and love in the brain, I think.
Anyway, my biggest grip is that the women in science Ali has portrayed this far, are nothing like me and my colleagues in the 5 different laboratories I have worked in my career (could it be because I don’t live in the US but Europe?). After 3 books of hers, I am thinking she is self inserting herself into her protagonist non stop and I guess maybe I am tired reading about Ali having sex and immature conversations with tall big and did I mention tall and big muscular totally typical science guys. Lol

Tyler The funniest review I’ve ever read, one I BELIEVE, and I just bought this book yesterday…

Tyler Update: I agree with everything Emma said.

Reading this book truly made my head hurt. I mean, I can see that Ali Hazelwood as a person is incredibly smart and because she does have some really witty humor that I sometimes enjoy, I won’t completely shit on her book. 2 stars.

Sarah Aww hehe I liked it! You’re not wrong tho!

message 48: by bookishlyn (new) - added it

bookishlyn Every time I pick up an AH book, I pray it’s not like the others, and every single one is worse and weirder than the last 😩

Lacey Totally agree with this review

BarbaraBrubru_gingertiger Thanks! I will bypass this one 🤣👍!
