Read 2 times. Last read October 2020.

Do you ever feel like you are reading the same book over and over? I’m an outlier here. I thought the book was good, not great. There weren’t many surprises, a ton of zigzagging in time (over a two-day weekend), and when a murder finally occurred it was anticlimactic. The victim was a piece of work and everyone could have cheered at the death (ten people on a train could have committed it in the dark as the train barreled through a tunnel). To add insult to injury, an unnecessary epilogue was tacked onto the end. I was reading One by One at the same time and I had to stop because I thought I was reading the same book (like a soap opera whose plot never changes after ten years) - No matter where I picked up, I felt like I hadn’t missed anything. I stopped the Ware to finish The Guest List. I’ll go back to the Ware next week, after I’ve cleaned my palate.

I don't mean to be cranky, I'm disappointed.

Ceecee Oh I’m sorry tamar - hope you enjoy your next one!

Regina Yep! Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

Michael David (on hiatus) Great review! I wasn't blown away by this one either. 🙄

Dorie - Cats&Books :) Sorry Tamar, I know EXACTLY how you feel, it's the worse when you feel as if you've read the book before because it's so similar to another book, ugh! Nice honest review

Pat Great review Tamar. I haven’t read this (and won’t) because it sounds so much like at least 3 others I’ve read in living memory

Oscar Same thoughts! Great review, Tamar!

indy ❁ ⋆⁺₊⋆ is that Murder On The Orient Express? hahaha
nice review :) My copy of The Guest List and One by One also arrived at the same time yesterday. Now I guess i should not read them altogether in same period lol

Samantha That’s pretty much exactly how I felt about The Hunting Party, so I was hesitant on this one. Think I’ll skip it now, thanks for this. Great review!

Susan (on hiatus) Sorry this was so bland Tamar, thanks for your review because I was wondering if I'd missed anything by not reading this.

Locked room mystery that felt a lot like a repeat of her last novel. A bunch of numbnut boarding school and Uni buddies who either haven't grown up or have dark secrets in their past, get together for the wedding of one of buds. Hope you enjoy. I don't recommend reading One by One at the same time...

The disappointment was because I've been waiting for over a year for this book and it felt like I was reading the Hunting Party all over again in a different venue and a new collection of dysfunctional friendships. It wasn't a bad book; I was looking for more of her talent, maybe the next level.

Thanks Samantha. The book was too close in time and too similar to the last, and not a refreshing twist on a popular genre.

This one was a disappointment, especially because my anticipations were so high. I went back to the WARE and I LOVED IT.

JanB I was disappointed too so we are on Outlier Island together :)

Jen Sorry you didn't like it more Tamar, I read it prior to reading The Hunting Party and am wondering if that's why I liked it more?🤔 I found it so atmospheric and I think I liked the characters and setting of this one more, but sadly, it's not for everyone clearly and I hate when a longed for book is a disappointment!
