"Talk to me, Lady Rose. Just talk to me."
Yorkshire, 1943. Petty officer Lily Baines is part of the Wrens, and one of the best radio specialists. Day after day enclosed in a cold cubicle, browsing and listening frequencies and static in hopes of catching a tiny glint of enemy information or movements, allowing the british forces to retaliate or prevent an attack. Not without much success; until one day she catches a radio transmission of a young US officer, Matt Jackson, in an allied submarine reporting a devastating attack. Nothing particularly uncommon in the midst of a worldwide war, except the transmission, is from 2023.
This was a neat historical fiction short story, with a bit of sci-fi and time travel elements. Really enjoyed the back and forth between Lily Baines and Matt Jackson, the characters felt fleshed out and real, allowing me to care and root for them during the short time provided. Some very lovely moments and quotes. Decent pacing and a very heartfelt ending. This took me quite a long time to finish since I’m not transitioning a particular WWII affection wave, but it can be easily finished within two hours I think. My first Kate Quinn and a great sampler before someday attempting ‘The Rose Code, or ‘The Alice Network. The author also mentions ‘The Bletchley Girls by Tessa Dunlop in the afterword. I find this very cool, since it’s not like my tbr is overflowing already.

"Háblame Srta. Rose. Sólo hablame."
Yorkshire, 1943.

I'm not a big fan of WW books lately but it's been good so far Tina! I'm right in the middle. I think I'll be finishing this today, or tomorrow :)

It's good Hanna! I just been taking it very slowly, and got distracted by a lot of other things xD

It's my first actually. A sampler for future readings of the author lol. I'm just missing the last two pages :p . Thank you Sue!

Thank you Ellie! Hoping to read that one too someday :D

It's good. Thank you Angel!

Thank you Alan! Nice to see you enjoyed it plenty too :)

Thank you P.B.! Just know it's very low key sci-fi time travel though :p

Thank you Berengaria! Just a tad fantastic, but nothing too big as to lose its realistic historical vibes :)

Thank you Srivalli ! My current TBR is 335 and every day I'm trying to lower it down. Still, it doesn't count the more than a thousand books I already have downloaded in my tablet that I don't add here so to not feel overwhelmed. I try to keep my tbr always lower than my Read count (now 404). It gives me a sense that I'm winning the battle. Of course that is a totally unrealistic and fictional feeling; I'll never win this war, but seeing that number shrink feels nice nonetheless :p

I like your idea of not adding all books to GR TBR. I do that with all those kindle deal buys. Aye, this is a war we'll never win!

Talk to me, Matt. Just talk to me.

Talk to me, Matt. Just talk to me.

Thank you Shey! So glad you loved it too :) . The day I feel again the WW vibes will try to pick something more of The Quinn!

Thank you Dee! The Quinn seems very comfy in her zone, but she said in the afterword she enjoyed venturing out a bit so maybe she'll do it again someday :)

Short and powerful <3. Thank you SLR!

Thank you Sarah! Glad you liked it too :D

A bit :) . Probably would've enjoyed it a lot more if I was in the mood of the WWII thingy. Thank you Alexandra!

Those were my thoughts as well. It's a lovely first taste I believe. I'm positive you would like it too Teres :)

The Alice Network is my favorite 🤩

The Alice Network is my favorite 🤩"
Good to know. Thank you Anne! I think I'll go with The Alice Network first, and then The Rose Code. Next year though; with this one and having to review The Book Thief I've had my fill with WWII atm xD

Thank you Kerrin! Hoping to get to both someday :D

Thank you Thibault! Highly praised short. I think I would even had enjoyed a lot more if I was riding the WWII wave, which I'm not sadly.

Thank you Darla! It is very good, you can tell easily. WWII is just not my jam atm. Just bad timing. And going in blind lol.

Gosh! That and the page count will probably keep me away for a few more years lol. Thank you MarilynW :) !

I'm glad that your first experience with this author was such a good one! looking forward to your next reading experience with them!
