Loved it. Good explosions, for those who care. As a lifelong pyrotechnics enthusiast, this is heartfelt praise. And wouldn't it be awesome if someone filmed it? Obviously, the HEA is a selling point for me because I don't need any more stress this, um, decade, I guess. But I am also a huge fan of practical effects and well choreographed fight scenes. Just in case anyone is wondering: kissing and explosions are a great combination. But also, I love science, and experiments, and justice, and jewel toned colors. And the women here are such good friends and good people.
Now, of course, I'm awfully embarrassed about writing sooooo much about the cover before. Not that my opinion is wrong, just that somebody spends all that time writing a book and someone has to go off on the cover. I'm a monster.
***
I respect MacLean and would happily have bought this, but honestly money is tight this year, because rich people need tax breaks in order to fund horrible people who hate books, education, and reproductive rights. Not that I am bitter.
But honestly, I deeply dislike this cover. First orange pigments aren't my faves outside of actual pumpkins and fall leaves. And although I love the cover model photos (Yay, women with heads on their shoulders!) the paler background becomes red violet on the back cover. While this is a pretty color, it clashes like anything against that dress. The TMJ is bad enough without gritting my teeth for the duration.
And yes, I have sensitivities to colors and clashing ones are nails on chalkboards to me. My respect goes out to cover artists forced to work with stock images (hell, marketing may have insisted onth chaise) too often though, they just have too many elements in uneasy juxtaposition. They make me imagine endless emails yammering away, and a slide deck from purgatory.
To me, this is a literal hot mess. The book, I expect, will be awesome.

Right? It's the worst thing about college libraries: everything looks unappealing.

I suppose a time will come when you can tweak the cover of any book to suit, no designer required. Of course, the quality of amateur cover designers will mostly be awful, but if they're ebooks, who would know?
