I didn’t love this book. I could see why it was important to write and to read, but I had I hard time investing in Julia’s character. She definitely fills a gap from the original 1984, but I didn’t enjoy Orwell's book either, particularly her character. However, I think there could be a lot of value in teaching both books together.

Dee (Delighting in the Desert) agreed - I think I liked the premise of it more than it's execution!

Hi Dee. Always nice to know that I'm not the only one who thinks so. I kept seeing this book on must-read lists. Felt a bit obtuse after reading it. By the way, I recently reread 1984 and realized I was being unfair in this review of it. I disliked Winston more than I disliked the book. The book was actually really good! But Julia was the opposite for me.
