This is a DNF for me at 50%. I am SO BORED, this book is very slow moving. I just don't like this author's style of writing and switching POV's. I know that everyone states that the second half gets better but I'm just not invested in this story enough to continue.

PROS: Interesting premise

CONS:
*Slow pace

*Too many characters

*Repetition -- oh my gosh, so much repetition of what is in Julia's mind. they also keep asking each other "are you okay", not sure why that was repeated so many times but it irritated me.

*I did not like the main protagonist at all - couldn't connect with some of the things that she did and could think of other ways she could have handled this.

All in all I guess I was just not the right audience for this book!

I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through NetGalley.

Jackie I am literally at a bookstore looking at this book. Opened the app and there you go! Thank you.

Jackie FYI I am an outlier on this book. There are many 5* reviews, this was just not the book for me!

Linda I just could not waste any more time on this book :(

JaymeO So sorry this didn’t work for you. The beginning was slow to get into, but it definitely picks up! Great review!

Traci Hunziker Oh boy, do I ever agree! So disappointing after her last book, which I so thoroughly enjoyed.

Hi Tracy, welcome to outlier land, I thought I was the only one. Just reread your review. You had all the points that I did👌

Melissa (Semi-hiatus for Work) Sorry it didn't work for you, I agree that the setup was much too slow.

Thanks Melissa, perhaps I have less patience with thrillers because there seem to be a lot of slow burners, but 40% is too long for me!

Southern Lady Reads Oh no. I've been wanting to read this one so I'm sad to see the review.

Thanks Pink I know you ended up liking it, I just didn't like Julia and the slow pacing drove me bananas!

Hi Dorie,
I've been an outlier on several books! Thankfully, there's always another 5 star book just around the corner.

Linda Oh no, Dorie. I had my eye on this one. Can't do "boring" myself either. On to the next. :D

message 26: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn I hate thrillers that make you wade through a really slow first half before the plot really gets going. A slow burn can be okay, but there needs to be enough intrigue to hold your interest.

Sheyla ✎ Great review, Dorie!

Srivalli Rekha Sorry this didn't work. Dorie. Onto better reads!

Same here Carolyn, if it's a slow burn with tension and anticipation that's o.k. but I didn't feel that here. I also hate having to write down characters because there are so many!

Dorie - Cats&Books :) Srivalli wrote: "Sorry this didn't work. Dorie. Onto better reads!"

thanks Srivalli!

It just wasn't for me Marialyce, you know how it goes, I'm an outlier so you may like it, I lost patience with it :(

message 37: by Meg (new) - rated it 2 stars

Meg Ugh so glad someone agrees on the writing style, not for me! I am sure others find it easy, but I hate the perspective change and going from third person to first person and then I am not always sure who a character is until partway through the first chapter for them.

Dorie - Cats&Books :) Meg wrote: "Ugh so glad someone agrees on the writing style, not for me! I am sure others find it easy, but I hate the perspective change and going from third person to first person and then I am not always su..."

Thank you Meg, yes I hated the changes from first to third and back again. Too confusing = too much work to read!! I just don't enjoy her writing style :(

Jayne Just finished this one and I agree with you.....I, too, did not like all of the point of views. Great honest review, Dorie.

Millie I don’t think the English ask ok? To ask how you are lol I think it’s a greeting of sorts

Cori Papuga I felt the same. I listened to the audio book and had to keep rewinding because I was lost. Too many POV and timelines.. bounces around a lot. I still don’t know how certain things happened in this book, I just wanted to get it over with

Thanks Cory, I can just imagine that the audiobook is even more confusing! This was a DNF for me half way through.

Karen I appreciate your reasons for your DNF, Dorie. I almost went there, but I let my curiosity take me to the end. I probably over-rated it - but, I am less inclined to pick up her next book. Thank you for your very, very honest review! :)
