Margaret Atwood is brilliant. From what I have seen, heard and read, every time she opens her mouth or sits down to write, this kind of stuff comes out.

In this piece, she gives writing advice--with panache. By demonstrating some basic story variations, she ponders the whole idea of happy endings, not just writing them.

My favorite writer. Always perceptive, always wise, always entertaining, always making a deeper point, even when she tells a joke.

I appreciate that so much, Margaret! I think you'll get a kick out of this one whenever you get to it.

Cecily This was super, but to keep the sheen on your feelings for Atwood, I suggest you're more cautious with her most recent works. (Well, maybe not her MOST recent, which I've not read, but The Heart Goes Last, The Testaments, and to some extent, Hag-Seed.)

This is excellent advice, Cecily. I may continue to avoid all three of those (and the Cat Bird one), or at least read them with reduced expectations. I'm looking forward to Old Babes in the Wood: Stories though. Thanks!

Cecily Yes, Old Babes does sound more promising. A return to form, I hope.
