In Three Cups of Deceit: How Greg Mortenson, Humanitarian Hero, Lost His Way, Jon Krakauer has researched very thoroughly whether Greg Mortenson's information and accounts of his travels and school building in Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace ... One School at a Time is factual.

Unfortunately, there are many witness accounts from individuals Mortenson traveled with, worked with, and spoke with who indicate that Mortenson's information is not factual.

Charisma and powerful storytelling are great traits, but ethics, integrity and transparency trump all other characteristics.

Celia Thanks Sharon. I do love Krakauer's writing but this book has been on my maybe pile for a long time. I have so much to read, that it will probably stay there forever. I usually do not enjoy books where a person's lies/exagerations are revealed. So... probably not, 😘

I agree with you that he is a terrific writer. This is a very short book; 3 hours on audiotape.

75 printed pages. I put it on hold at the library. I definitely can do 75 pages. Love you.

Jan Priddy I think it's enough to know not to read Three Cups of Tea, which was recommended to me as "better than Mountains Beyond Mountains,." It wasn't. I disliked the tone and his smarmy attitude almost at once and soon distrusted Mortenson's story on many levels. He was clearly a player and the Christmas photo with his wife and military-style weapon was disgusting, imo. I have not read Krakauer's account, but was entirely unsurprised when Mortenson was revealed as a liar and cheat.

Great insight, Jan.
