did not like it

absolutely insufferable. "my appendix burst but then I flipped a book by a medical quack open to a random page and it said not to get your body parts removed so I still have my appendix" yeah ok buddy.
Skeevy vibes abound. Gave the impression of a man who has been incredibly lucky and now thinks he is a creative prophet.
If you can make it through the nauseating, crunchy granola word salad, you might find a few nuggets but I promise you it's nothing you can't find by simply logging on to Pinterest.

message 1: by Ryann (new)

Ryann Norris This is the greatest review I’ve ever read

message 2: by Alex (new) - rated it 1 star

Alex Ankarr Elizabeth Gilbert's book on the same themes, 'Big Magic', is so much better. Like 1000%. Totally with you on Rubin just having got some good breaks, getting to work with artists who are vastly more talented than he is.

Sera Snyder Alice, thank you for writing this review. It’s every thought I had that I didn’t know how to convey into words but you’ve done it eloquently. The part about the appendix specifically had me questioning the authenticity of the rest of the book

Mircah Foxwood Couldn't agree more. I'm amazed and sad that people are rating this book as 5 stars.

Chanel Thank you! He lost me with the dangerous appendix example.

Natalie THE APPENDIX EXAMPLE GOT ME TOO 🫣😭 LIKE WHAT?!?!!

message 7: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Ditto. What happened to make it this popular?!

message 8: by Kimmy (new) - added it

Kimmy I just read the part about his appendix and decided to DNF. Eesh.

Katharine The appendix is where I put the book down and abandoned ship. Praise the powers that be, I borrowed from the library instead of buying! Had a good laugh at the airy fairy dribble anyway.

message 10: by Bill (new) - added it

Bill Zoelle As someone who nearly died as a child from my appendix rupturing and was reading this entertaining review while literally eating a granola bar, I’m going to take that as a cosmic sign to move on to a different book.

Anthony Hahaha

Ricky Antolini Sounds like you are envious

message 13: by Alice (new) - rated it 1 star

Alice LeFae Ricky wrote: "Sounds like you are envious"
I mean yeah the guy is rich

Giuseppe Enriquez After the appendix passage I almost stopped reading this book.
I had to remind myself that I wasn't reading this to take everything as an absolute truth, but rather to look for a few golden nuggets here and there.
I'm happy I didn't stop reading but I agree with the spirit of this review.

message 15: by Mary (new)

Mary Skeevy vibes.

Briana Yeah that's the part that got me too lmao

message 17: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Yup I got to the appendix part and decided I was done.

William Hooper I read it more as a creative outlook on life where you find meaning in little daily coincidences. People struggle with those incredibly difficult decisions and sometimes are looking for some sort of push one way or another. We’re all finding our way. So yes, it’s a lot to make medical decisions based on coincidence, but I didn’t let it turn me off to the book and the rest sparked some really interesting food for thought.

Pedro Pereira He is a creative prophet

Craig spot on.

message 21: by Brad (new) - rated it 5 stars

Brad Blackman I thought that was weird, too. I almost quit but didn’t want to dismiss an entire book because of one line. That appendix part sounded like terrible advice as it can be life-threatening but there are still good parts to the book. Nothing really earth shattering.

Josiah Goodrum just a note: it’s not a medical textbook.

message 23: by boo-boo (new) - added it

boo-boo Yeah he really lost me at the appendix part! I am going to keep going because I did find the part preceding it was ok

message 24: by Adam (new) - rated it 1 star

Adam Agreed. I stopped the audiobook here and deleted it.

Larissa Mattei As soon as I read the appendix shit I was sure the book was gonna suck

Riley Raynor 🤣🤣´Ú²¹¾±°ù

message 27: by Jakob (new)

Jakob Lucky? Please. Do your homework.

message 28: by Faye (new) - rated it 1 star

Faye Sabotage This is exactly how I feel. I'm finishing the book but I'm hung up on the medical book stuff

message 29: by Maya (new) - rated it 2 stars

Maya Nalani Thank. You. So. Much!!! That part pissed me off so much dnf-ed a few chapters later

Craig Currie That part was definitely the worst

message 31: by Justa (new) - added it

Justa Guy One-hundred percent. It reads like a self-positivity jargon book for lost millennials trying to find themselves.

message 32: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Haha!

message 33: by Elena (new) - added it

Elena i stopped reading when i saw the appendix example... for real for real

message 34: by Symone (new)

Symone Lucero Not "crunchy granola word salad"

Diana Terry This book took me forever to get through after I read the bit about the appendix. I got through it and there are nuggets I made work for me at this point in my life, but it was incredibly rough.

Michael Lynes Love this review it made me smile

message 37: by Renata (new)

Renata M. Prophet of absolute nonsense but hey, atleast he has his appendix.
This book was atrocious and i am stunned by the fact so many people found this utter bs somehow life altering.

message 38: by Roy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Roy That one got me too!

GingerSwiftie I think Rick Rubins book was amazing and really kick started a career including creativity. Even though I totally disagree with your review there is an age difference between us and we both have different opinions. I am 12 and thinking about a career in music so this book was great to help me with writing and getting started. Maybe if you read it at a younger age you would be more intelligent you lazy, old dirtbag. #DeservesADunceCap #MoronMuskTheSecond

message 40: by Elina (new) - added it

Elina Aizporiete I don’t think he said his appendix burst. If that happened, he would be having emergency surgery right away and wouldn’t just walk down to a bookshop. So, no need for exaggeration. As for the appendix content and your comments, I’ll just say—IYKYK, and clearly, you don’t know. But I have to agree, the book seems a bit too artsy for me. I’m getting coffee table book vibes: good aesthetic, flip it open, read a short chapter for inspiration, and enjoy your day. It’s not your typical ‘self-help, ‘how to or even ‘shadow work book.
