it was amazing

The land at the edge of the world is surrounded by the sea The sea feeds and the sea kills Sea gives life and sea takes life
The unnamed main character just a boy is an orphan
The light of the moon is of a different family than the light of the sun, it makes the shadows darker, the world more mysterious. The boy looks up, looks at the moon. It takes the moon just as long to make one rotation as to revolve around the Earth, and because of that we always see the same side, it is just over three hundred thousand kilometers away, it would take a very long time to row there in a sixereen, even Einar would be put off by the distance.
The boy’s mother had written to him about the moon. About the distance to it, about its mysterious far side

The boy and his adult bosom friend go cod fishing Fishermen are rough and tough folks Their life is extremely dangerous
Happiness is having something to eat, to have escaped the storm, come through the breakers that roar just beyond the land, to hit them at precisely the right second required to sail through them, otherwise the surf topples the boat or fills it and then six men who cannot swim are in the sea with two hundred dead fish, the catch destroyed and a considerable likelihood that the men are drowned

This time his friend doesn’t return The boy leaves He is in the suicidal mood He heads for the village The village lives its ordinary life And unexpectedly the boy finds there his haven
We should care for those who matter to us and who have goodness in them.
This must be one of the laws of life, and the Devil kicks the asses of those who don’t heed it.

We live halfway between heaven and hell and whatever happens we must survive.

Cecily You've captured the unique mood and style of this gorgeous volume perfectly. I urge you to read the next two very soon, as it's really a single novel in three volumes, with very little time between each. (The second is even better than this one, imo!)
