** spoiler alert ** I wanted to love this, but the only thing that kept me going was Meryl Streep’s phenomenal performance. I kept oscillating between extreme annoyance at the main character and her “perfect family, her lack of regrets, her overly optimistic take on the pandemic and then being absorbed by the setting of the cherry farm on northern Michigan. I could listen to Streep read about that farm for even longer. I expected so much more based on the premise, but the story was so bland and safe. Mainly because the main character didn’t seem to feel much at all. No regrets about her past, no anger about anything…and that ended up irritating me. I can see many people enjoying this book, but this one wasn’t for me.

Snarky Reader Agreed! Lara was way to perfect. Found the perfect husband, perfect farm, amazing daughters, she was perfect as Emily, perfect in Serendipity…Blech!! Who wants to read about that?!

Give me flawed characters. They're much more interesting.
