really liked it

It is hard to believe this book is classified as 'Young Adult Fiction' because the themes are very adult.
There is a second civil war in America over the pro-life debate, and to end the war it is decided that you can't abort a feotus, but between the ages of 13-18 you can choose to send your child to be 'unwound' which means that they are harvested for parts which are donated to people needing new hearts, eyes, skin etc. The whole child is used and they are not considered dead but alive in a 'different' way!

So you can see this as another dystopian YA fiction book, or you can read it and be sickened, enthralled, disgusted and challenged. There is no mistaking this is a book that makes you think. Not just about the value of life, but also about how our society can choose the 'easy way' or the 'not my problem' way. People can see something and agree.."Yes, something is wrong, but it's not happening to me, so who cares", or "I won't get involved". And what kind of society does that make us? What kind of person have you become when you take that road?
