bleg. greg loooooved this book and said it made him wish he had written his own angst-books in high school, but i was a teenage girl and he wasnt, and this just didnt do it for me. its not poorly written at all, i just have never liked books that were about clique-y high schools because i couldnt relate to them at all. maybe i just went to a smaller, or a nicer, high school. but i can definitely see the value of this for a teen reader, and i really liked the authors note on censorship at the end. so a high three.

nope - i just read the book today. maybe after my class, i will watch the movies for all of these - i dont want to get things mixed up or feel like i am cheating for school. i can have a teen movie festival!!
I was so absorbed in the girl's voice. I felt claustrophobic when she couldn't speak! Anderson did that to my anatomy with words! My breath wasn't there.
i totally agree, I think I went to a smaller, nicer high school because when I hear about bullying I feel like I almost doubt the authenticity of it all because there wasn't much of that at my hs! but of course I realize I am lucky for that very reason but because of my lack of personal experience I couldn't really connect.
you read this book for a class??
OK, Karen, Book Genius that you are...do you know of any other books besides Just Listen by Sara Dessen and Speak that would be good for restoring hope to young kiddos recovering from rape/sexual abuse?
Talking Middle School to young High School age group in the "young"...the stuff you wish there wasn't a needed audience for :(
oh, jeez - i am only just now getting the notification for this. i could probably research a list for you. the stuff i know offhand is probably on the older side and not on the MG side, which horrifies me to even contemplate. but i will look into it this weekend

jeez. I totally know what you're talking about. My highschool was definitely not the clique-y type. I dont know why. I guess its just cuz none of us cared. We all did our own stuff. We werent really jealous of others, all we wanted was to get through highschool and still have fun and friends. (damn i sound 7. lol) but that resulted in us minding our own buisness and also in no clique-ness (made up word alert). But great review
