This review contains some spoilers:

This story follows a family of two small children, a mother, a father and a grandma who decide to go on holiday to Florida. Nobody in the family really listens to the grandma or cares about her wishes (most likely due to a generational divide), which leads the grandma to often use manipulation to get her way. It doesn’t always work, but unfortunately, it does work near the end of the story when the grandma wants to take a quick detour to visit some mansion. This detour leads to a series of unfortunate events where the family is eventually confronted with a criminal who escaped from prison and who seems to have no qualms about putting a family in the ground if it comes down to keeping himself safe and hidden

Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of the writing style, but the story itself was pretty good and interesting.

Cara Great review, lovely girl💓!!!!!!!

Imme van Gorp @Cara Thankyou, darling❤️

~Nicole~ What an intriguing plot , Imme!! Too bad the writing didn’t live up to it. Though I love third person POV. ❤️

Imme van Gorp @Nicole Definitely intriguing, I agree! I don’t mind third person pov either, especially for stories like these, but somehow the writing just didn’t draw me in completely. This was written in 1953, so perhaps that has something to do with it😅😂

Oh. Ooooohhh, that must be it then 🤣🤣🤣

Imme van Gorp @Nicole Most likely, yea🤣🤣

message 7: by Amina (new)

Amina That definitely does sound like a unique read - emotional blackmail that leads to some unexpected events. Sorry that the writing style didn't work well for you, Imme, but at least you got to read something a little different. 💞

message 8: by Melody (new)

Melody You mean a good man isn't to find 🥲

Kati *☆・゚ oh no, what a pity that the writing couldn't live up to the plot. :((

message 10: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @Amina Thanks, love!❤️ Definitely pretty different and unique! I wish the writing style could have been equally as good as the story itself, but oh well🤷🏻‍♀

message 11: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @Melody LMAO well, if you look at it that way🤣🤣

message 12: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @Kati It’s quite a shame yea, cus it could have been so cool!!

Federico DN Sounds like one disastrous detour. Clearly one of those cases where Grandma doesn't know best. Glad it entertained, some :p. Fair review Imme!

message 14: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @Federico LOL yea, grandma definitely did not know best in this case😅😅

message 15: by len ❀ (new)

len ❀ this is why i disagree when they say grandparents always know best. 🙄
sorry this wasn’t that good, imme!

message 16: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @elena heheh yup, they definitely do not always know best, no matter how much they seem to think they do🥴😂

message 17: by SK (new)

SK The title is so different from the premise lol

message 18: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @SK hahah it does seem that way, doesn’t it? I think the title mostly refers to the criminal at the end, and how the grandma tries to convince him not to kill them by repeatedly saying that she knows “he’s a good man, but well, it doesn’t work…

message 19: by allison (new)

allison ☆ Sorry this one was a bummer😬😞🩷

message 20: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @Allison Thankss, love!❤️ It wasn’t all bad, but the writing style just never elevated this to a high enough level for this to be considered great imo haha

message 21: by Charles (new)

Charles I have to admit this isn't the type of book I'd normally see you reviewing but kudos to you for being more adventurous in your reading (something I am aspiring to do). Lovely review too 💛

message 22: by Imme (new) - rated it 3 stars

Imme van Gorp @Charles haha yea sometimes I try to be a little more diverse in my reading genres but I fail at that most of time too😂😂

message 23: by A (new)

A Mac The premise sounds quite intriguing, though it's a shame that the writing style wasn't as compelling for you. Excellent review, Imme💜

message 24: by Nazanin (new)

Nazanin Awesome review, hon! 💚

Imme van Gorp @A Mac Definitely! Could have been so much better!
