My notes to characters in Eclipse:

Bella: I'm so done with you. You're a self-absorbed little snot. You're not a strong modern woman because you don't want to be a teen bride, and you're not cute because you fall down a lot.

Alice: You're so not cute either.

Jacob: What you did is called "date rape," buckaroo. And to think I liked you best until the middle of this book!

Edward: Checking the brood-o-meter... yep, you're still no David Boreanaz.

Leah (the one lady-wolf): I don't understand why you're getting the short end of the stick just because you had your heart broken... everyone seemed to cut Bella enough slack in the last book for a lot less. Sucks to be a supporting female character in these books, huh?

Note to Stephenie Meyer: Even you must think the Wuthering Heights references are a little over the top, right? Oh, and all your acknowledgements? Well, you're not cute too.

Sarah Reading this book is how I spent all of last weekend. Yes, I know this series is cheesy but call me crazy, I just can't resist the lusty teen vampire thing.

Melissa Yeah, I gotta say that I'm pretty done with Stephenie Meyer at this point. It's not the cheesy romance... it's the despicable characters. If I was a teen going for some hot vampire action, I think I'd stick to Laurell Hamilton or Buffy. (Or, if you like your vampires medieval-style, Michele Sagara's Sundered books. I was all into those when I was in high school.) But I just ordered copies of M.T. Anderson's Thirsty for my library, so I think that will be a good vampire novel upgrade for my kids who blow through this one.

Sarah Your review of Eclipse was amazing. None of the characters in the book annoyed me half as much as Bella though, and that held true for all three books. I was definitely into the Michele Sagara books when I was in high school as well, and was kind of hoping for a series at least on par with the Sundered books out of Stephenie Meyer. I guess I expect too much from authors. I even thought the first of the three books wasn't half bad and was excited to see where she was going with her story. I really thought Meyer was going to get into some more character development and get some interesting things out of some of these people, but once again, I guess I expected too much. I hated the second book but still had hope that she could redeem herself by the third. I know these books are pretty trashy, but I still think it was a pretty fun way to spend the weekend. As for M.T. Anderson, I've never read Thirsty but I really enjoyed Feed. Dystopia instead of vampires but pretty good all the same.

Melissa Thanks, Sarah! I guess I could handle the cheesy one-sided characters more in something like all those Amelia Atwater-Rhodes books (if you've read those... I've only read a few) because the girl was 16 or 17 when she wrote them. I expect more from a grown-up author. I would have been happier with Meyer's books if they were on par with A Great and Terrible Beauty--cheesy, swoony, but reasonably fleshed out and swashbuckling-ly fun enough to sustain a weekend's happy reading.

The sad thing is, even with my harsh words, I'll still probably read Meyer's next book. Damn OCD! (Oh, and yay for Michele Sagara! I thought I was the only one on the planet who had read those books. Any other Sundered fans, show yourselves!)

Amberli Even those the book kinda trys to make you dislike Leah, I liked her much for than Bella by the end of the series.

message 6: by Amna (new) - rated it 1 star

Amna Deschain Come on!! I know they are all horrible, but not Jake. The only reason anybody can dislike Jake is his stupid fixation on Miss needy drama queen vampire wannabe.

message 7: by Alison (new)

Alison Perfect.

But for one thing: you didn't bash Bella hard enough. You let her get away with only three sentences... (there's got to be a book written, someday, about the flaws with these books!).

message 8: by Even (new)

Even Lin psh. i absolutely luv this book n will continue 4 the rest of my life.

message 9: by Even (new)

Even Lin how cum there r so much negative comments on goodreads? i hate this place noe. so full of hatred.

message 10: by Even (new)

Even Lin *now

message 11: by Julia (new) - rated it 1 star

Julia I love you. <3 You took the words right out of my mouth, Melissa.

Scarlet it amazes me how much time people spend on writing reviews when they claim they hate the book/author/characters. IF YOU DONT LIKE THE BOOK, THEN WHY SEARCH THROUGH ALL THE BOOKS ON HERE AND WRITE ON THE ONE YOU HATE? ridiculous.

Shyshy I jus gotta say dat a person goes on here n expresses their view on a book wether they like it or not ;) N dude i gotta say its harsh but its da truth! :)

message 14: by Cyan (new)

Cyan I think Scarlet and Even Lin need to shut their friggin' trap. If YOU don't like reading negative reviews, STOP reading, you dumb fuck! People can read whatever they like and write a negative review if they feel like it! That's what Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ is for, dumbass, to provide an arena to all readers. Sorry to Melissa for the profanity. But seriously? Melissa's not getting paid for her reviews. Meyer is getting paid for her books, so yeah, she kinda put herself in the public arena there. What I'm sick of is all the lovey-dovey readers who go onto the 1 star ratings and hate on the reviewers. You go, Melissa!

message 15: by Fezekile (new)

Fezekile Cokile I'm secretly writing a children's fantasy novel. I would love some feedback.

message 16: by Reyhan (new)

Reyhan Have you read Wuthering Heights ? Because it isn't exactly a romance and using its name in the same sentence with Eclipse is an insult .

Abhishek Anad What is that supposed to mean???are you comparing it with wuthering heights?

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I love you, lady.

Hilary Andersen Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ is not the place to abuse books, it's a place to celebrate them. So, please stop being haters and go read a book. But please leave this book alone, thank you!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Wrong. Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ is a place to talk about books. This girl is expressing her opinion. She's not saying whoever likes it is an evil bitch or something. To each their own.

Just because you like it, fine. People may hate it. Doesn't mean you can cyber-bully them!
Most people tried it but they were stopped by the 'FLAG' button, which I am dangerous close to pressing now.
Not because you like Eclipse, but because you blame other who don't. In other names, cyber-bullying. Which is forbidden in Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ.
Please don't repeat the same mistake again.

Hilary Andersen Thank you for warning me about that, I can sometimes get carried away. But, i believe sticking up for a book does not count as cyber bullying. I'm sorry that you may feel like it does. I'm also truly sorry that books get this kind of negativity. So, let's leave this on a happy note and praise the wonderful books written (I highly recommend the fault in our stars and Cinder...)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I am so glad that you said the following! :) Its okay I get carried away too. I am very sensitive to cyber bullying, you see. :) Ooh, I love Cinder! Can't wait for Cress!

Kaylee Homerding This series is one of the best I have ever read and I can relate to Bella and other characters cause I can be just like them there are a bunch of girls in my grade that love these books and we talk about them all the time. Just the other day I stared a war with my friend on which team was better Edward or Jacob and I won, but that's not the point the point is that you should not be dissing on Stephanie Meyer and her books it how she write and some people like the was she writes.

Adelheid Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ is exactly the place to leave negative reviews about a book. No, it isn't a lovey dovey place where people can not express how much they disliked a book. That is the entire point of a book review. It is to review a book and tell why you liked it or did not. Then other people can read what you have to say. This helps them to decide whether or not to read the book. Personally, having read the book, I say don't read it. Go find a better series.

Gbolahan Jacob date-raped someone? When? Who?
I have no memory of that at all!
Maybe i don't remember cos Jacob was my second-best character.
Carlisle was my best. > sighs <
Ok, so, people, when did this date rape occur?

Gbolahan Kaylee wrote: "This series is one of the best I have ever read and I can relate to Bella and other characters cause I can be just like them there are a bunch of girls in my grade that love these books and we talk..."

Lillie Bella is a better women then you will ever be and she's not even real

Alyssa True fact

message 29: by Lillie (new) - added it

Lillie Hi alyssa

Adelheid Are you two ganging up on someone and insulting a stranger, because she gave your oh so favorite series a bad review? Bella is not a better woman than anyone. She is a whiny teenager who really does not have much of a personality at all. Alas, her great appeal to teenage girls is that there is so little personality there, that the reader can put themselves in her place and 'live vicariously' through her. This can not be done often, as most characters have their own distinct presence which is different from their readers.

message 31: by Alyssa (new) - added it

Alyssa And I think Bella is a better woman than you
You should be ashamed of yourself being mean to two 10 year old girls

message 32: by Lillie (new) - added it

Lillie Now that is funny

message 33: by Alyssa (new) - added it

Alyssa Yep

Gbolahan Two 10 year-old girls...LOL!
Meanwhile, guys, please let's take it easy. Adelheid, in answer to your question, Lillie and Alyssa were not ganging up on Melissa. They didn't insult Melissa.
And Alyssa, what Adelheid said was not being mean to anyone. She simply asked a question (which I have so graciously answered, you're welcome).
That said, we all need to respect each other's opinions. If you dislike a book or an author, tell us why. Be passionate about that. If you like a book or an author, please tell us why. Be emphatic.
But, please, don't make someone feel stupid for liking a book you hate or make someone feel useless because they hated a book you like. Each to his own.
And with that;
1. I dislike Bella,
2. I dislike Edward.
3. I dislike Bella (I had to say that twice).
4. I like Carlisle.
5. I like Jacob.
6. I (so far) like Stephenie Meyer.
7. I think Alyssa is hilarious
8. Hilary (message 22) was mature.
9. And I LOVE Melissa's review! LOL!

message 35: by Alyssa (new) - added it

Alyssa I am very sorry (being truthful) for if I did insult you and I think you are correct about me being hilarious lol

Alyssa Let's not have a conversation on good reads where people are trying to talk about books and talk on what's app bye everyone!

Adelheid O.K. I do have a problem with 10 year old girls being on this site, as I'm sure you had to tell Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ that you were at least 13 to get an account. This is not a good place for children to be. You are also too young to have read Breaking Dawn as there is a 'boot scene' in it. Do not take this personally, but please wait a few years before you get on this site. I admit that I use it primarily to keep track of my TBR pile, but age limits were put on the site for a reason.

message 42: by Alyssa (new) - added it

Alyssa Ok do you actually believe that I'm ten I'm just joking so don't worry I'm actually 14 so is my friend Lillie and I didn't take it personally
