I was never fully invested in the characters or the universe somehow, though I appreciate the reflections on identity and disability.

Berengaria Afrofuturism is one of those difficult genres, I think. First you have the cultural elements which are often not known/understood outside of regional Africa and then you have the sci-fi, which can either be brilliant or utter rubbish. A huge challenge for writers. (But a wonderful idea!)

inciminci It is! But here Okorafor even adds another layer, by saying in the story itself that there's the thing of being from the African diaspora, which places you neither there nore there, but on your own different space.
I have read C.T. Rwizi for example that I really enjoy reading, and I loved Lagoon by Nnedi, so it's always a matter of chance whether I like it or not. This time not so.

²Ï³Ü±ð°ù²¹±ô³Ù✨ I had the same feelings! I want to read Akata Witch and Bindi by Okorafor, I think Noor maybe wasn't 'it' for me. The characters felt off.

I dnf'ed Bindi too. But it's YA, so that might be the reason I found it not so good. I think Lagoon counts as horror, but horror light, I like it most. As a more avid fantasy reader than I, you maybe like Akata or Bindi better than I did.
