this honestly read more like a horror than a coming-of-age romance, which is to say: it was very successful. everything is so impossibly mundane, yet so complete an exploration of youth; howarth's writing is encapsulating. the love weaved into each page is so intense it's almost akin to grief. i hated each character and found myself fond of them, either way. lucy and susannah were complicated and selfish, and i'm so happy there is this queer love story that is real in all its beautiful and morbid ways.

"I live in a body that has loved her and I see with eyes that have witnessed her. She is part of my muscles, my tissue, she is unforgettable."

“I knew she would be beautiful today, of course I knew, but this is unbelievable. Never in all my years of Christianity has there been talk of an angel like this. My God, she is not even walking, she floats around the room.”

thank you so much !! ohh for real about this being “life under a microscope i think the amount of detail in howarth’s writing made the readers so aware of every little thing down to the dirt under lucy’s nails! i need to get my own copy of this book so i can highlight it from cover to cover.

read it. it’s the most manic depiction of love (aka lesbian teenage girls 🎀)

ren my favoritest in all the land!!!!! i’ll keep this comment close to my heart i’m so happy ~~ thank u so much <3 also i will peer pressure u into reading this i want u to love it sm !!!!!

Oh true! I love how observational she is while also often not being able to connect the dots herself. It’s such like…does that count as dramatic irony? I can’t believe this is a debut. The whole thing just hums in harmony with itself.

REN PLEASE FINALLY READ THIS BOOK!!!! I’m on my knees begging you.

Here beside Liv also begging. Groveling even. It’s so good!

thank you liv!!! <33 i absolutely agree, the writing lends so well to the themes. i always know there’s a sapphic story waiting for me when i want to feel like ive been gutted! 🎀 howarth is so incredibly talented !!!! i hope she blows us away with another novel soon
