As of this date, "American Gods" remains Gaiman's masterpiece.

This one IS for adults, if only because the breadth of ideas and undercurrents is best understood by an adult who is familiar with the "Old Gods" The premise is unique, and I predict that this book will become a true classic. If you any interest at all in seeing just what Mr. Gaiman can do, please, please do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK!!

I decided to re-read one of my favorites, after talking to someone about it recently.

This is most definitely a book that needs to be read more than once, I realized... I got even more, if possible, from "American Gods" this time ... That phrase lingers with me, though...."America is a poor place for gods....

Dustin Hi, Bondama!

How have you been?

I just wanted to say that I've had American Gods on my "to-read" list for awhile, and I'm very much looking forward to reading it!

Bondama Jeff wrote: "I seem to remember chatting about this as a Gaiman / King crossover book...what do you think now that you have come back to it? Is the Great Mans dark shadow all over this book, or is this Gaiman ..."

I think, particularly upon a re-reading that this is solely and completely Gaiman. As I'm sure you're aware, he's rumoured to have an encyclopedic knowledge of arcane folklore and mythology, and he certainly puts in to the best of uses in this book, and its companion piece, "Anansi's Sons."

Bondama It's in the same "universe", Jeff -- Surely you remember Anansi, the spider god from the Caribbean? "I got Tiger's Balls, I got Tiger's balls, etc. He's roughly equivalent to the Native American Coyote, also the Trickster.

Dustin I really enjoyed Anasi Boys, Bondama!

Bondama I just loved the "Trick" ending, didn't you, Dustin?

Dustin I don't really recall a "Trick" ending, Bondama..

Bondama Go read your mail, dear -- I don't want to spoil it for everybody!
