Ahhh i really enjoyed this!! 🤭🤭 I just love the Shadowhunters universe and it was so great being back in this world 💘💘

Lady Midnight is the first book in the Dark Artifices trilogy, which is a series that takes place after the Mortal Instruments. We follow Emma Carstairs who is determined to discover who really killed her parents five years ago. Together with her parabatai, Julian Blackthorn, Emma will have to investigate a demonic plot stretching across the whole city. She is determined to find out the truth- if only the truth was as simple as she thought it would be...

It's been a while since i've read a Shadowhunters book, but i hadn't realised how much i missed this world 🥹 This was a great start to a new series and i'm super excited to continue on with the series 🫶🫶

I just really love cassie clare books and her writing hits every time- the descriptive style just works so well for me. i loved being back in this world, especially bc i didn't have to relearn the magic system or anything.

Plus the end part of this book?! INSANE 🫢🫢 my jaw was on the floor- i genuinely did not guess a single one of those plot twists. it took a huge amount of self control not to sprint to the bookstore to get the next one when i finished this 😩😩

The characters were pretty good! 🫶🫶 i also get so attached to shadowhunters characters so i can't wait to get to know these ones more ✨️

�� Emma: she was an okay fmc! i loved how badass she was, but she was a littlee bland 😬 still, i'm excited to read more about her and hopefully get a bit more connected to her 🥰🥰
�� Julian: PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT 😩😩 idk what it is about him, about i fell in love with him immediately. i love how mysterious but also caring he is, and the way he takes care of all his siblings?! CRYING 🥺❤️‍�� i love julian blackthorn ✋️
�� Mark: idk if this is an unpopular opinion, but i genuinely HATE HIM. he annoyed me the whole time and then the ending?! i was ready to slap him 😃👊
�� All of the other Blackthorns: ahhh i loved them! the family bonds between them were so amazing to see. i think ty and tavvy are my favs, i love both of them 💓💓

I seriously did not expect to think much of this romance, but EXCUSE ME?! 🤭🤭 i loved the forbidden aspect of their relationship and the tension & pining? *violent chef's kiss*. Reading julian's inner monologue and seeing how OBSESSED he was with her- i was swooningg 😩😩✋️ there were only crumbs at first, but it got so good later on 💓💓

My main issues with this book tho were the plot and pacing. Shadowhunter books can definitely be slow at times but this one just felt TOO slow 🙈 the first half dragged on and there was definitely not enough going on to justify nearly 700 pages. this could've been way shorter if it was more fast-paced, and i think that would've made it more enjoyable for me 😬😬

Overall, a very enjoyable read!! 🫶🫶 Definitely recommend if you're looking for:
