really liked it
bookshelves: 2024-releases, read-in-2024

Hello? I would like to lodge a complaint. The UK cover of Piglet is a glistening stack of sugary doughnuts, dripping with pastel icing. The US cover is towering, overfilled, juicy burger. Eye-catching, enticing covers.

In Australia, we get... HALF an apple with a fork stuck in it? What the hell?

Leni Iversen I find all the covers rather off-putting, but the Australian one is really the odd one out.

Rebecca I love my Aussie version 👌🏻

Jerrie A travesty.

I think the off-puttingness is probably intentional, a bit provocative as is the main character being named 'Piglet'.

It is quite pretty, even if it doesn't really match the book.

Yahaira Who eats an apple with a fork?!

message 7: by Sara (new)

Sara I love the uk cover it's so pretty.

message 8: by Tundra (new)

Tundra Maybe Australian’s don’t need such a literal cover 😆…not that I know what the book is about 🧐

Marchpane Yahaira wrote: "Who eats an apple with a fork?!"

EXACTLY

Marchpane Tundra wrote: "Maybe Australian’s don’t need such a literal cover 😆…not that I know what the book is about 🧐"

So it's a metaphorical apple, hmm... 🤔

message 11: by Carmel (new)

Carmel Hanes Made me giggle!

Jenna This is a fascinating observation and one of my favorite reviews I’ve read in a while! I think this cover may suggest that Australians are possibly more clever and sophisticated than the rest of us. 😆

Hahahah - A theory I can get behind!

Susan I love that you pointed this out! I get the burger (that’s the cover I got) and I get the surgery iced donuts. I do not get the apple! 🤔

Right? No one's eating apples in this book!

message 16: by Karen (new)

Karen I wonder why that is? You bring up so many good points here, Marchpane. Hmmm.... Thank you. ☺️

Not having read the book, but only the plot summary, I believe that all are appropriate cover photos.
The images reflect the arc of the main character. The apple is a "before" pic, and the others are "after" pics.

Hattie that is just wrong. sorry for you.

message 19: by Alicia (new) - added it

Alicia lol.no food porn in Australia!

message 20: by Robin (new) - added it

Robin Kennedy 🤣🤣🤣

As someone who has read the book, I don't think this theory holds up. But good attempt!

Sonja I’ve read the book with the donut cover and it’s my preferred one. The cheeseburger cover is extremely off-putting but completely understandable in context. The apple? Makes no sense. Justice for Australia

Marchpane The doughnut one is my favourite too 💕

Allyson America has a cheeseburger on the cover, Australia was robbed!

message 25: by Bernadette (new)

Bernadette Bustillos I prefer the UK cover

Marchpane Bernadette wrote: "I prefer the UK cover "

Yay, another vote for the doughnuts!!

message 27: by Bianca (new)

Bianca Hmm, completely different covers/food groups - what the ...

Ashley This made me laugh out loud. I want to see the research behind this decision, how interesting.

Marchpane Ashley wrote: "This made me laugh out loud. I want to see the research behind this decision, how interesting."

We typically get either the UK or the US cover -- it's actually unusual for there to be a separate cover for the Australian market. Which only makes this weirder to me!

Sarah They couldve atleast done a messy bowl of pasta or something, ha

Ali Deters My favorite review.

message 36: by amy (new)

amy 😂

message 37: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Moore I’d prefer the donut over the burger please

Yvonne Isn’t it meant to represent a punctured heart and a reference to Eve in the garden of Eden? Much cleverer than a pile of doughnuts

message 39: by Vivienne (new)

Vivienne I agree Yvonne!

message 40: by Maggie (new) - added it

Maggie Panning This made me laugh out loud.

Melliott That really IS an odd choice. (And no, I don't think it's a reference to Eve, FFS, Yvonne!) The scene when she orders every hamburger in the restaurant and the two waitresses pile them all on the table...a defining moment that was the right choice for the cover. You are right, the half-an-apple is bogus!

Jennifer (Jaye) (catching up slowly) lol Marchpane 🤭🤭🤭

message 43: by killerfox (new)

killerfox i eat a apple with a fork.Thats because i cover mine in Carmel .

message 44: by Holly (new) - added it

Holly But is the book good? That's all I want to know.

message 45: by Gemma (new) - rated it 1 star

Gemma Suspect because Australia has a healthier outlook on food than the UK or USA and the publishers thought that an apple stabbed with a fork looked like an eating disorder? Otherwise, I'm stumped. :)

Maria Apple stabbed with fork looks like eating disorder and restriction of desires. The gluttony covers appeal to both the binging and the satisfaction of her choosing herself in the end.

message 47: by Hedi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Hedi I got the one with the donuts, so I’m not complaining, but how is it not a croquembouche?

message 48: by Amy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amy It should have been croquembouche!!!!

message 49: by Abbey (new)

Abbey Arnold This made me laugh 🤣
