really liked it
bookshelves: 2018, american, scifi

"If there is a God, I thought, it’s a painkiller."
- Dan Simmons, Endymion

Enjoyed it, just not as much as Hyperion and The Fall of Hyperion. This is the equivalent of the Return of the Jedi for me. Still buzzing from the first two, but not as good as the first two either. There are certain parts I enjoyed and somethings that just seemed a bit overdone. I'll review more later.

Stuart Yes, all the heavy-handed religious themes of the Pax and cruciform and convoluted factional scheming got quite tiresome, especially over two long volumes.

I still think it is better than 9/10 the SF out there, but it is hard to compare it to his previous two in the Cantos four.

Radiantflux I am amazed at how good his first books in a series can be and how much worse the closing books are. I was really disappointed with the second book of his Olympian Mars series (duology?) even though the first was brilliant..

I have those on my to-read list too.

Radiantflux I'd be interested in what you think.

I'll probably not get there this year. I've already got a long line. I'll finish the Hyperion Cantos, however.
