this is probably the most stunning exploration i've encountered of a fact of modern life that haunts me. inundated as we are with horrible news, we keep it all at a distance, our daily functioning relying on our shutting out that every murder, act of colonization, ongoing genocide is affecting or destroying or ending human lives as complicated and important as our own.
but the chance that a "minor detail" will strike us, as it strikes our protagonist when she encounters the story of the rape and murder of a palestinian woman by israeli soldiers that happened 25 years to the day before her birth, causes it all to collapse.
the connections it draws between our main character and the girl this violence happens to is also a disturbing, timely reminder of that same message. we are separated from those who are suffering only by minor details, in feeling and in chance.
this is a haunting and terrible story, and it's one whose twin in horror is occurring every day before our very eyes.
the least we can do is watch and feel and cry out no.
bottom line: free palestine.

Did you know, Israel has been negotiating for a peace treaty and part of that is that they will and want to stop the war if they get the Jews that were kidnapped back. But yall, guess what Hamas is saying?
And do NOT call me sweetheart. I don't know you, I don't agree with you and certainly did not give permission. And neither am I am airhead.
And! Did'ya know that Hamas is following the same path as the Germans that were and still are thought of as villains?
They are trying to do something called genocide, sweetheart.
They even fucking teach their five year olds to hate Jews. So, even if all of this is solved, the adults leave the Jews alone, there is still another generation that is gonna pop up, hating Jews, thinking Jews are the scum of the earth and then, they are also going to try to do that little something called genocide.
Don't you dare try me, honey. I get ugly when I'm righteously mad. Actually no, I'm NOT mad. I'm mourning bc if you just get down on your knees and believe you can be saved. Except the ego that resides in every human, (and yes, even in me) the ego that oh so hates saying I'm wrong, I'm sorry, won't let you get on your knees and beg forgiveness from the same God that is going to decide if you have a place in heaven. But wait! What's that? You DON'T have to beg? He gives it freely? You just have to recognize your sin and repent, and try, at LEAST try to be better and not sin? Oh my.
I'm sorry for making my snide propaganda infused rant so long, sweethearts. And I'm so sorry that I live under a rock. I can't help it, it is where my parents decided to raise me. Now, I have to go, I have a younger brother (that is probably, going to be fed the same propaganda) that I have to take care of, though I do so wish I could show you up some more and tell you more of the propaganda that I am being fed.
