**3 STARS**
I am struggling with my rating for this book. I really want to give it 2 stars but settled on 3 because I didn't actually hate it. Not really. I almost gave up around the 50% mark because I really just didn't care for the characters. It's getting the 3 stars because I actually finished it and I did have some WTF?!? moments and there was a moment in the story where my heart just went out to Cathy. I couldn't imagine...Now, I am fixing to try and get my feelings together for this review...
First, the cheating...I am just going to get my thoughts about this out of the way. It wasn't a turn off for me. It bothers me, yes, but it's just a story and it's going to evoke emotions and that is a good thing. I don't go looking for a story that involves it but it doesn't turn me away from a book because it's in it.
Next, the characters...Yeah, I didn't really care for them. Didn't care for Cathy at all. I felt horrible for her. I did. I couldn't imagine feeling what she was feeling. There were tiny moments when I felt like I could relate to her but they were fleeting. Ben, I liked Ben. How could you not? My heart went out to him. Arsen, didn't like him. At all. I didn't really find any redeeming qualities about him and didn't understand the attraction. There's a part in the story with him and Cathy that really skeeved me out and solidified my dislike for him.
Finally, the writing. There was just something off. I think it may have been just how she was describing the characters and their lives. Mainly, Arsen's. The first half of the book was kind of boring and all over the place, very unrealistic. The last half, we finally get a story, somewhat. I didn't like alot of the dialogue between the characters. The only believable character was Ben. There was just something off, I can't pinpoint what it was. (Its' driving me insane!) Just something....it just didn't quite work for me. I didn't see some things coming, which may be the only good thing about the story. I love a thought prvoking story, and I think this was supposed to be thought provoking. It just fell flat. I wasn't left thinking about the characters or the story. I am left with an empty feeling, trying to figure out what didn't work. The story is there, I just don't know where it went. I just feel all blah.....I, honestly, won't be recommending this to anyone....
