Holly Jackson says in the acknowledgments that this is the best book she's ever written. I've read all her books and this is simply not true. This book feels muddy and rushed, far-fetched and underwritten at the same time. There is not one likeable character in the story which is probably the most annoying part about the whole thing. While a lot of the "plot holes" are filled by the end, the characterisation that was sacrificed for that made this a really rough read. I tried to trust the process, but I really couldn't. In terms of the mystery, everything could have been solved if people had just GONE TO THE POLICE! FBI! ANYONE! I hate mysteries that happen just because the author is too lazy to rule out the police. Get the police involved. Have them working, at least. If they suck - fine. But don't just say "Oh well, we didn't go to the police becauseeeeee they might not help." Not to mention at the end one character tells the other to run to the police. But BESTIES - you said no police the whole time? So why now??? It just felt unfinished. And so did many sentences. SO MANY SENTENCES WITHOUT VERBS. Like please. Sorry. Rant over.
