GUYS LMAOOOAOAOAOO??? i am sorry but this was her worst book.
i mean this with no disrespect. i am being so deadass when i say, i like ali hazelwood. i can appreciate what she was doing with this book, and the fact that she tried something different. however, i personally think she should stick her to usual work. will i read her sports romance? of course my fatass will.
the overall story and plot of "not in love" was incredibly boring and had very repetitive progression. they LACK chemistry so badly... i mean, i have more romantic feelings for my toilet than rue and eli did for any part of this novel. in addition to that, their interactions had no meaning or feeling, and felt shoved up my ass. the only decent part of this is her writing. i think ali is a good enough author to know how to have a decent flow of dialogue + monologue, & where + how to use it in her stories.
now onto the real bullshit~ aka~ the characters ⁀
rue : listen, i tried. if one things for certain, two things for sure—i will always support a woman, but she was written so incredibly dull. there was really nothing to say about her personality or presence because she was just so boring. is there anything particularly wrong with her? i mean, i felt like she was very indecisive and rude to eli, but aside from that, she gave the insert y/n quirky girl. her constantly running away but liking the attention from eli also got hella boring real quick. but hey; at least she was my height, so tall queens unite.
eli : he was VERY desperate for her, which hear me out. i like when the guy is confident and knows what he wants but here??? this man was lowkey creepy. i don't know if anyone else felt like this bitch was demanding way too much for a woman he just met, but i was feeling all the second hand embarrassment for both of them. he was down bad, and it was blaring. this is ali's most smut heavy (?) book, and i think all the issues lie there because these two had NO thoughts aside from fucking each other constantly. after a while i was concerned because we know nothing about them, and they knew nothing about each other. he was just doing the most and being hella extra for no damn reason.
in addition to this, ali hazelwood does this weird that pisses me off (granted other authors do this too), but here specifically—what is with the fmc getting first person pov & the mmc getting third person??? that was actually so jarring to read. i wouldn't even remember that if i were writing it lol. like halfway through, i would forget and start making shit up. sjm does this, rachel gillig, even in bride? it really makes NO sense. in fantasy—maybe? but in contemporary/general fiction? it's just unnecessary. coupled with all the back and forth and how quickly they started banging? i was about to DNF, which, i probably should have looking back.
lastly, i would insert quotes that i found goofy here, but i don't want to look through this damn book ever again.

LMAOO thank you queen!!! 🩵
i do not recommend this if you are a fan of ali, i should've stayed curious.

glad it worked better for you 🩵

HAHAH that's what i would recommend. hopefully her sports romance is better !!!

HAHAHA thank you so much bestie!!! i am so sorry her book didn't work for you 😭

Also, completely agree with you and I'm not the biggest fan of Eli either but I feel like that's a me problem haha

ahh i am so happy it worked better for you. this is also my lowest rated ali book, even though i love her usual content. i feel like eli was doing the most with her, and was being very superficial. that was taking me out of the story completely.

haahah thank you so much!! 😭

no no hahaa i am sorry. you are all good, i got what you meant! i never want to defer people from reading anything, however, i in right faith cannot recommend it. i prob should've listened to the other one star reviews too. i would still try it if you want, but ofc it's all up to your own opinion. 🖤🖤

🩵🩵

edit: losing my mind because i already reacted on this a month ago but forgot about it because i didn't like the post LMAO
