I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1)

I don't plan to read that book. But right now I'm watching the movie...
Here's a few things I noticed...
(1) The male lead is one of the most unattractive male leads I have ever seen in any YA movie.
(2) Of course we get a "new student in a new school" setting.
(3) Of course there's a pretty, sweet blond girl, a handful of bullies and a bullied geek in this new high school. TOTALLY ORIGINAL.
Plus, since the main character is a boy instead of a girl, so we got a Pretty Blond Girl instead of a Prince Charming, Bullies instead of a Queen Bee, but the Geek is still the Geek here
(4) The soundtracks of the movie are damn annoying.
(5) Of course the bad guys are a bunch of ugly, creepy looking fellows who dressed in black. Because being ugly or bad looking usually is a sign of being evil, and God forbid the good guys to be anything less than good looking!
(6) Of course the male lead has to be a total brat toward his guardian, who had spent *years* taking care of him and protecting him.
(7) And of course you would meet The One, the love of your life in your high school, at the tender age of sixteen or seventeen.
(8) Number Six looks pretty cool, so would anyone tell me why she isn't the main character!?
(9) The whole thing is just so damn juvenile, I can't live with it!
(10)The movie comes to an end! And I have decided I'm not going to get anywhere near the book!

I Am Number Four looks to me like a summary of all stereotyped YA adventure themed novels out there, so many overused cliches for my liking. And the characters, they have the emotional and mental depth of a piece of wood.
There's some humor in the movie, but it doesn't make up for the flaws...

I know movies aren't always accurate with the books, but the movie doesn't inspire me to read the book.

I don't think I would go anywhere near this book even after reading your reply, I'm not a fan of this genre (SF and aliens, etc) and the plots of I Am Number Four looks like The Mother of All Overused YA Cliches to me.

2) It is because every time he shows his powers he has to move which makes sense
3) It is not a new movie so give them a brake
4) No duh every movie has a annoying soundtrack that is how every movie is.
5) That is the point and if you had read the books you would have known that they purposely did that because they are the bad guys and they were made from Mog goop they were not born they were made by their "Beloved Leader"!
(6) John's Chepan has no Idea how John feels so of course they are not going to get along that well and it is how it is in the real world too kids don't get along with their parents that is how the world is.
(7) It is sappy so what it the books are 100 times better
(8) She is number 6 not number four and she is amazing in her part in the movie but is better in the book.
(9)No it is not READ THE BOOKS then you can talk.
(10) Well if you change your mind then let me know you will find that the books are amazing and keep you on the edge of your seat.

I'm merely talking about the charm and acting skill of the actor who plays the male lead, and he is, what should I say? Let's say he has nothing to keep me interested enough to care about him nor the movie.
2) It is because every time he shows his powers he has to move which makes sense
I'm merely talking about how every YA movie/book has to open with 'a new kid in a new school' setting, which is so totally, completely, entirely original.
3) It is not a new movie so give them a brake
I don't care, the overused setting of The New Kid In A New School, The Pretty Blond Girl, The Geek and The Bullies only show me how little originality the author of this book has for his setting and his characters.
4) No duh every movie has a annoying soundtrack that is how every movie is.
It's not only one song, it is not even two songs, what I said is all of the soundtracks are annoying, period.
5) That is the point and if you had read the books you would have known that they purposely did that because they are the bad guys and they were made from Mog goop they were not born they were made by their "Beloved Leader"!
Yes because bad people have to look ugly/bad and the good guys must be good looking. Totally realistic. Not to mention in every YA movie/book, good and evil must be determined by your look. *rolls eyes*
As to the point about the bad guys 'being made', let me guess, the Evil Boss who made them has never thought about perhaps making his minors attractive looking can actually help those minors to spy on and get along with normal citizens better and in turn getting their mission done faster. I suppose the Evil Boss has never thought about these, huh?
(6) John's Chepan has no Idea how John feels so of course they are not going to get along that well and it is how it is in the real world too kids don't get along with their parents that is how the world is.
But in the movie, this little brat never pauses FOR A SECOND to think about what this Chepan guy had done for him for YEARS. It doesn't endear this little brat to me in anyway. If I encountered someone like him in real life, I don't want to befriend him.
(7) It is sappy so what it the books are 100 times better
In every YA movie/book, you just have to meet The One in highschool. Totally original.
(8) She is number 6 not number four and she is amazing in her part in the movie but is better in the book.
This sounds like the big fat case of 'things turn out this way because the high and mighty author said so' to me.
(9)No it is not READ THE BOOKS then you can talk.
You can't expect everyone who watches the movie to have read the book first. And a movie has to be able to stand on its own. If a movie requests its viewers to understand it and see the depth of its characters and story by reading the book first, then this movie is a failure.
If you wanted to continue to be my GR friend, I suggest you to quit saying crap like READ THE BOOK BEFORE YOU CAN TALK to me. What I'd seen in the movie is juvenile, I know what I'd seen well enough.
(10) Well if you change your mind then let me know you will find that the books are amazing and keep you on the edge of your seat.
No, life is too short to read juvenile books which I most likely won't enjoy and have no particular interest in. Plus the publisher of this series is a known sweatshop, it is one more reason for me to not read it.

I am number four
The Power of Six
The rise of Nine
The Fall of five
The Revenge of Seven
The fate of ten
and last United as one ((comes out June 28th))
((this is in order))
((There is also 14 extra side books that 3 of them is the size of 1 normal book))
All but book one are amazing trust me it will be worth reading that is my only point.

Eragon, I appreciate your effort, I really do, but you should never have to say 'please' to anyone to promote a book you like. If a book is good or at least appearing to be good, I would have gripped it and devoured it hold in one go, all by myself. But if a book doesn't appear to be good, I just won't go near it.
PS: I really really mean to stay away from this series and everything else coming from the same publisher. Because this publisher is a freaking sweatshop:

I read from an article that this publisher gave out bad contracts to young writers/authors which leave them with a lot of disadvantages. () If it doesn't sound bad to you, I don't know what else can make you think said publisher is a sweatshop.

Ever heard of pre-review before?

Because of your comment, I wikied James Frey for the second time in my life, and here is my finding:
James Frey (born September 12, 1969) is an American writer and businessman. His first two books, A Million Little Pieces (2003) and My Friend Leonard (2005), were bestsellers marketed as memoirs. Large parts of the stories were later found to be exaggerated or fabricated, sparking a media controversy.[1] His 2008 novel Bright Shiny Morning was also a bestseller
Wow, just wow.

Really, if you wanted to read constructive and/or 'not shallow' book reviews please check out book review websites or magazines that pay professional reviewers to write constructive book reviews. No one has ever paid me to do that.
Really, if you wanted to read reviews that sing this series pairses, do check out the 4 or 5 stars reviews. They will suit your taste better.
Really, I will continue to write book reviews in whatever way I feel like it. For crying out loud I've never pointed a gun at you or anyone else and force any of you to read my reviews.

Pretty faces are not rare in Hollywood, the problem with this male lead in that movie is I can't see any on-screen charisma from him to begin with.

You talk like YA novelists can't do any better than writing formulated high school drama craps, I expect better from them and some of them did prove YA novelists can do better.
Don't insult the novelists who actually work hard on their craft, don't insult the readers. That's it.

I don't really care about the male lead's look, I only know that it's difficult to pay attention to him when watching the whole movie. Plus his acting skill or the lack of it...........better not go near this topic.
