After enjoying The Nix by Nathan Hill last year, I was excited to read his latest book, Wellness, and liked it even more!
The story begins with two college students, Jack and Elizabeth, who meet in the 1990s in Chicago. In the years that follow, they work on building their life together as a married couple, as parents, as adult children reflecting on their upbringings, along with the addition of “support groups, Facebook drama, and some experimental studies.
As with The Nix, there are frequent tangents, something I’ve come to associate with Hill’s writing style. This was a hybrid read for me, I read some of the book but listened to most of it on audio and Ari Fliakos was an excellent narrator. Hill does a good job balancing (dry) humor and depth in Wellness.
