did not like it

So boring. No plot. Ranty. Excessively political. Just liberal woke nonsense for no reason. I’m very pro-choice but I’m not interested in reading anymore books that are just someone’s social justice warrior project. I’m also done with books where women are written as complete idiots but miraculously they are so smart in their career but don’t have the good sense to get through 5 minute of real life.

Nicole Reed You said it so well!

message 2: by Simmy (new)

Simmy Reads Thank goodness i seen this review, i was unsure about reading it.

Julie Studer I agree. Couldn’t make it through the third chapter. I wish they had woke warnings on books so I wouldn’t waste my time or money.

Jasna I agree with you!

Jeanette DeSantis What an annoying book! It was so painful I couldn’t finish it

message 6: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Thanks for the heads up about being excessively political. I will not be reading this book.

message 7: by PeaceLove (new)

PeaceLove Thank you for the warning. I am returning this to the library unread.

Annie I don't recall reading anything about politics in this book. If you're upset about women's experiences and you yourself politicize them as a response, that's on you.

Sarah Skavnak Please stay unwoke then. There is nothing political in this book and actual discusses real issues that women face every day! Must be so privileged to have never faced any issue like the ones in this story. Interesting your opinions are trying to make it political so may want to check yourself. Definitely entitled to not like it though.

message 10: by Lori (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lori Weird. This book is NOT political AT ALL. And you’re calling it “woke is weird too.

Karina triggered trumpster alert

Megan Roberts I am half way through and had to come see the reviews because I feel the same. So far I like Jamie and Maya the most because they talk the least.

Kathleen Moore I agree with your review.

Jayna Robotham Agreed!

message 15: by Martinigirl (new)

Martinigirl Your review was helpful and now I won’t read it. I honestly get really annoyed at politics (social or otherwise) in books and it seems like all new books these days do that. I notice it’s mostly female authors too. For those of you saying there was no politics in the book make be thinking obvious politics and it’s probably not that. The reviewer may mean little jabs here and there. Little tiny remarks that are sort of subtle but not really. I’ve read books like that and it gets on my nerves too. Just for once, it would be nice to see a show, movie, concert, play, listen to a song or read a book as an escape from all that crap being shoved down our throats. Good grief can we have anything neutral anymore?

message 16: by Jenn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jenn LaBrake I don't understand what politics you were reading about.

message 17: by Kim (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kim Roby Yes, the whole book was pointless drivel.

message 18: by Heather (new)

Heather Thank you for the warning. I refuse to read any book that spins politics in either direction but especially the woke, liberal agenda. Authors don’t realize how they’re shooting themselves in the foot. There are so many old books that I can read to not even deal with this nonsense. ✌🏽✌🏽

Joanne Conklin Totally agree with the OP. Too woke for me.

Melinda Patton Wow, I did not find this book political. Or woke. But I don’t consider gay characters political. Or abortion. Those are personal issues, not political. But I guess woke does mean to empathize with people different from you, and I guess by your review, you clearly didn’t empathize with the characters who were different from you.

Megan M Not one mention of politicians, political parties or any other topic of the sort. You thinking a story about someone's personal life decisions and the support of a queer character says a lot about how your political beliefs strive to interfere with people's private lives.

Ashley Gordon I'm a conservative and wasn't bothered by the "politics" at all.

message 23: by Lisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lisa Chambers I absolutely loved this book, so much love and truth. If you're triggered about abortion and LGBTQ+ references that's a YOU thing, not a political or "woke" thing... seriously, do you even know what woke means? Maybe avoid reading anything written within the last 50 years (or 100 years if you're one of those ridiculous Florida people who just banned Anne of Green Gables in school libraries). Seriously, stick to reading your Trump Bible!

Jeanette DeSantis What an AWFUL book! It was honestly painful to read because it was so bad. So bad, I couldn’t finish it.

Josie Nicholas All she kept doing was whining the whole time, there was no generational sandwich as both her kids and parents were independently taking care of themselves and I was sick of hearing her gay daughter telling her that she should never regret an abortion. The truth is a lot of women may have regret, don’t try to glorify it and the whole time she kept trying to talk like she’s so cool and hip with the times. I didn’t read it, I listened to the audio on cd and it was soooo annoying and not interesting in the least bit! Nothing really happened, no real plot. Just her complaining and trying to be cool.

Katherine Thomas Given the fact that your dislike was based on political ideology and not the quality of the book, people should disregard.
ON top of that, your average book rating is 2.99 which means you are crap at choosing books for yourself.
Maybe get better at that.

Staci Not at all political! Wow. I loved it. I related so much to the perimenopausal issues and while my kids are still all at home, I found myself thinking “this is our future.. Also, none of my kids are gay (that I know of) and I have never had an abortion. I just related to the feelings of all of it.

Gwenyth I thought her obsession with her children was bizarre

Marguerite M. I felt the same way. Too woke for me. I agree with Gwenyth. Those of us who have bee parents did not obsess the way even though we were crazy about our kids. The menoupause obsession was annovying.

Jerry Smith lol

Sarah I was quite startled at this review. I didn't get the political thing at all?
Is this a US perspective? To me, as someone not living in the US, issues like menopause, aging parents, unplanned pregnancy, getting older, changing spousal dynamics are just normal, every day issues that are worthy of writing about.
Maybe it is just a reflection of the political divisiveness currently in the US that issues are being used as battering rams to turn humans against each other in a way that us overseas folks just don't get. That just makes me sad for your society that general discussion about tough things that happen to people almost can't be discussed normally anymore for fear of causing so much division. That must suck for you all.

Kristin 100% agree

Karen C How is this book political? I mean the main character is over the top and complaining a lot.

message 34: by Brandi Rose (new)

Brandi Rose This thread has increased my desire to read the book even more. It also reminded me to take reviews with a grain of salt. The reviewer claims there is excessive political talk in the book, while many others disagree. I can't wait to form my own opinion!

Done with TV You are pathetic. 😂

message 36: by Kristen (new) - added it

Kristen Hart You people have turned the term woke into your own political boogeyman for anything that doesn't fit your bigoted, narrow-minded view of the world and how you feel others should live it. Get over yourself and maybe try to raise your own awareness of social and political issues.

message 37: by Tami (new)

Tami Baker Thank you for your comment! I appreciate it very much!

Jessica I very much agree with your comment

briony rose "overly political" and it's just human rights

Natalie J A Greenly Define woke

Virginia Just because you took issue with some topics doesn’t mean it is a bad book. It just means you are not open to different ideas.

Virginia Nothing about this book was remotely political. Not. Even. Remotely.

message 43: by Leah (new) - rated it 1 star

Leah Rubke Yes!!

Kelseigh Groth Totally agree with you!!

message 45: by Paige (new) - rated it 1 star

Paige Maria Completely agree. This book was insufferable. Absolutely no plot. Woke for no reason.
