ain't no way. i would've ran upon hearing that lol I read most of this book years ago and it's definitely not for the weak

My man isn't a reader, but I explained the premise of this book to him and told him I read it as a teenager because it's considered a "classic" and he was horrified 😭
The point of this book is that the main character is a monster. If you read the book as intended then that is your takeaway. There's no red flag in that! It's as loved as it is because it uses powerful narrative techniques to twist reality and make you sympathise with the monster, while also never letting you forget his crimes. It's meant to be complicated, disgusting and beautiful. Beautiful sounds messed up in that sentence but that's the power of the narrative voice - because as disgusting as he is he still has an immensely poetic voice. Unfortunately most people who are (rightly in this case) deserving of hatred still have human qualities, and this book shows us that. And I will round off by stating it for anyone who skimmed my reply: the character in this book is an immoral monster, but the book itself is not immoral or an immoral thing to enjoy since it does not condone his actions.
