Neverwhere (London Below, #1)

I felt like Gaiman wasn't even emotionally present when he wrote this book. I kept waiting for it to pick up or to become engaging but it just didn't. It was strange, because some of his other work has been great, but this one just didn't make it. If he couldn't connect or care about his characters, why should I?
One reviewer said it was basically the story of the Hitchhiker's Guide, which to be quite honest I didn't notice, but I mention it because not even two chapters into the book my husband had said the same thing.
I've enjoyed other things by Gaiman, and next up (if I can muster the courage after this disaster) is American Gods. We'll see!
