it was amazing
bookshelves: classics, adventure, favorites

I'll sum up my review here in the combined edition.

It's more than 1200 pages long and it's not long enough. This book can be described with only one word - amazing. The first page sucks you in and keep you in the edge till the end. You never know what will happen next and what awaits in the next corner.

Shogun showed me a new side of the world, it changed my views on many things, and made me understand just as many things.

I had one more page till the end and I had no idea what will happen, the end was something I didn't expect but in the same time perfect. And i wanted to read more and more and more.

The writing style is amazing. You can feel the waves, smell the salty waters, feel the emotions. I felt myself smiling in places where in other books I would be crying.

This will be a book I will be rereading many many times and I know I will love it more with every rereading and I will be learning something new. And the story will stay with me forever. And I will be going to bed tonight with a smile on my face, thinking about this amazing masterpiece.

I recommend this book to everyone.

Devlin Scott Great review!

Yona Racheva Thanks Devlin. I can't wait, so I'm starting Tai-Pan right now ;d ;d I think I got myself addicted ;d

Devlin Scott I just bought Shogun for my Kindle and I think I have a paper copy of Tai-Pan somewhere....

I haven't read Shogun in years but I do remember how powerfully it resonated with me. I still feel the tremors of excitement and mystic just thinking about some of the scenes.

Marianne Henriksson In your comments, Yona, I found exactly what I think about this novel. It's one of very few books I've read more than once. It's one of the best I've read in my life (I am not young...). It's Japan's history told in a novel. And, yes, it was too short.

All of Clavell's novels are worth reading. He was an amazing writer.

Yes, he most definitely was. I don't know how are still people around who haven't heard of him....

I'm currently reading Tai-Pan . I'm loving it, but Shogun is the ultimate best for me right now ;d

Beth Lee I found Tai- pan very disappointing after Shi-Gun. I have not liked any of Clavell's other books...any one else find this to be true?

Yona Racheva I still haven't read the others. I started Tai-Pan, but I wasn't in the mood for it,so I left it for now, but what I read, I liked. It wasn't Shogun, but it wasn't bad.

Mark O'Kennon Yona, I've read all of Clavell's books.
Shogun to me his best by far. I read it years ago and in a time in my life that was to me, perfect.
I felt I was on the journey if that makes sense ?
Anyway enjoy your journey.
